Source? Unsubstantiated rumours don't tell to go down too well on here, just so you are aware.

It is criminal if this has less of a run than Bend It Like Beckham, it is just criminal.

I'd be surprised if it is true, but with the change in dynamic pricing they might actually be in trouble...

It is criminal if this has less of a run than Bend It Like Beckham, it is just criminal. The fact that Bend It Like Beckham even opened is criminal. The Girls is a good night out at the theatre, even if the songs are a bit of a mess.

I thought the show was OK. The new trailer is a good representation.
It's just that being old and male and not female and middle aged I just was not the target market for this and the show didn't appeal to me. I was a lone male in the stalls virtually when I saw the show.
I really did think it would find an audience.
However, the rumour of closure is still not substantiated.

Surely they wouldn't close before their booking period ends....

Surely they wouldn't close before their booking period ends.... If it's not making money, then yes.

They were booking till September, now ATG are taking bookings till mid July. I would guess it may be closing then. A shame if true, and I will definitely be booking many times before June. What a waste of a good cast.

Sadly as has been seen before booking periods don't mean a great deal. Very sad for the cast if this is true. Staying hopeful for now that the info is wrong

I really hope it lasts until June when I'm taking my mum. It's a shame it hasn't sold but they were extremely stubborn with their pricing during previews that it may have put a lot of folk off

Pugh and Rogers haven't much luck lately, first The Full Monty failed in the West End although successful on tour, now The Girls is likely to close early. I do think the pricing strategy just didn't work out

I mean, if it closes in a month we can just accept Sophie Louise-Dann as the black widow of musicals. Much like Emma Williams doesn't have much luck as of late, although Sixpence has lasted alot longer than anyone, predicted if it closed tomorrow it would be more successful than anyone expected! But I can still see that going through its booking period at least. Poor Girls though, its not looking good, even though these rumours have no source to back it up, the rate it is going, it wouldn't surprise me.

The Phoenix seems to have inherited the Shaftesbury curse, the longest show there since Blood Brothers closed was Once.

The Phoenix seems to have inherited the Shaftesbury curse, the longest show there since Blood Brothers closed was Once. And the running theme of the last two "meant to be" long runners is... Sophie Louise-Dann! CURSED WOMAN, I'M TELLING YOU!!

Such an amazing cast for this too.
If we ever get War Paint over here I want Claire Machin as Rubinstein and Sophie-Louise Dann as Arden.

Remember these rumours are only rumours and might not be true but I think it'll open until July atleast as that's when it's booking until. Are all 3 levels open at the weekend?

I think stalls and the dress circle were open. Around 3/4 full in the stalls. Absolutely loved this - so very northern tho and as a northern bird I loved it but could see it not appealing to the masses!

The marketing for this show has been pretty dreadful. The posters with the blue background that were on the Underground until recently got so many basics hopelessly wrong.
- "Pure Gold" in giant letters across the top of the posters, dominating them in a way that only the title should; - No pictures from the show included, instead we got a sunflower, with "The Girls" crammed inside it alongside the credits for Gary Barlow and Tim Firth and a brief allusion to Calendar Girls; - Not even any photos (initially at least, not sure if it's changed lately) outside the theatre, just an endless sea of sunflowers.
The posters just weren't eye catching at all and looked lost amidst the sea of superior advertising, particularly 42nd Street who seem to have got their publicity material spot on, both in terms of capturing the essence of the production and gaining people's attention. The latest advertising for The Girls is an improvement but is it too little too late?
Even despite the marketing though, with a seemingly ready-made fanbase of Gary Barlow and Take That followers to call upon, many of whom may not have gone near the show without his involvement, it's a surprise that its closure is rumoured so soon after opening.
Perhaps ultimately it was the wrong subject matter for a new musical and better marketing wouldn't have made a significant difference? If so, it would be somewhat ironic if familiarity with the story, which may have made The Girls appear such a safe choice for a risk-averse West End, has actually contributed to the show's undoing.

Wonder how busy take that are? Maybe Gary Barlow could do a stint in it to pick up interest? Is there a minor male role he could play? Maybe the florist?

Im convinced this will find its audience out on tour. No idea why but for me when I saw it the show had that feel about it.
