I have a theory that when some elderly directors attempt to produce something to appeal to a young audience they often end up with something that looks like it was produced at the time they themselves were young. Greg Doran is 59.

Apparently it is meant to be video game inspired, so I'm a little less horrified at the graphics (even though I've seen modern video game graphics and some of them are brilliant), but it does beg the question *why* they feel the need for a video game inspired trailer.....

It's like an old video game though which sort of defeats whatever objective they had in mind. Interesting that Robert Icke draws some of his inspiration from video games, but current narrative-based ones. |

If they spent money on focus groups as well as this dreadful trailer, I suggest ACE makes a suitable deduction from the next settlement for having wasted public money!
This is not the way to attract people to see one of Shakespeare's more challenging and dense plays.

Fair enough but why have you been talking about seeing productions in the 1960s? No idea about the quote, i don't read comic novels. |

Yeah, both are palatable when done acceptably, but if you thought you were buying one thing and got served another, you might get fed up after a while. RSC has a huge marketing and accessibility problem; they have had for decades. They pitched the Anthony Sher King Lear tour as being, basically, The Lion King, then wondered why children couldn’t warm to it. Shakespeare isn’t an easy connect with younger viewers; RSC fail consistently. |
