Anyone seen this?
Sounded and looked great and was the most convincing take i've seen of it yet
A huge orchestra and cast of soldiers slightly let down by some over designed fussy frocks. but Ryan Silverman, Erica Spyres and the Natalie Dessay were all excellent perhaps the best trio i've seen
Also No one has ever loved me is included - a song I adore and makes the piece seem more complete
Well worth the trek to Paris

I'm curious as to how Natalie Dessay, a coloratura soprano, handles Fosca's music. The one clip I've seen sounded pretty good but how was she in person?

It's odd that I find, for a musical called Passion, it's the one Sondheim musical that leaves me absolutely cold. So bleak and doomed from the start, and just so little warmth. But I'd happily give it yet another go.

I know why you say that, crabtree, but the passion IS there and it's hot and intense and it runs deep in this very very beautiful work. I think a case can be made for Passion as Sondheim's masterpiece.

Never used the operatic part of her voice and sang it like it is, a musical - so not like a certain recording of west side story Her acting very strong. Her Fosca was never ugly, a beautiful person who had mental health problems but bookish / cultured She was very believable and made the part so convincing |

i was sad to only hear about this last week; i know the Chatalet does very nice productions and i doubt we will see Passion over here any time soon
