mmm...I really don't see them going for Rachel. I think I might also be projecting. She's got a very strong voice, but I just find it extremely unpleasant.

They've been chasing Samantha Barks for a while now, but with Pretty Woman selling out, unless the reviews catch up with it soon, she won't be doing it. She could always take over later - as much as I hope it helps, I doubt Pretty Woman will give her a profile boost in the US as much as The Color Purple did for Cynthia Erivo. I'd be intrigued to see Sara in the show, Keala Settle would obviously sell tickets on the back of The Greatest Showman and I'll basically see anything Rachel Tucker does if I can, so I'd be happy with any of them. For a slightly more left-field choice, I'd love them to cast Jessica Keenan Wynn - they could use her role in the Mamma Mia sequel to help with the advertising. I guess she'd be more likely for Broadway though.

I'll be a Tucker fanboy til the day I die and would be very excited if she were cast (although I do agree with ali973 about her having a very strong presence and would be fascinated to see how she handles a less in-your-face role), but my personal ideal casting for Jenna at the moment would be Rebecca Trehearn. She was gorgeous in Show Boat and I certainly think she has both the acting and vocal chops required for this role.

Joanna Riding would be amazing but she’s in Follies.
Richard Fleeshman as Dr. Pomater? Or John Barrowman?

The Queen of Green has confirmed on twitter its not her playing Jenna, as fans have been tweeting her asking.

Rebecca is SO RIGHT for this and needs a breakout role already (and a cast recording). I actually thought of her in this while I was fantasizing over Waitress casting many months ago (see? this is what I fantasize about).

This is a story of a much younger woman who is expecting a baby for the first time. Barrowman is also mature for this role. Fleeshman is in Company and, just not a good fit. Pomater is goofy and awkward. Fleeshman is humorless and should just continue playing a bland hunk - that's what he's good at.

Between this and Come From Away, early 2019 is a snoozefest for me.
And while I'm at it, Get off my lawn!!!

I predict that, without some serious star casting, Waitress will really struggle to be successful in London.

Sara can always step in for a limited run if it doesn't sell well. And she has famous friends too.

So long as Sarah Harding doesn’t get cast I’ll be happy.
This would be my dream cast for the opening.
Jenna: Sara Bareilles for a 3 month stint, then maybe an ex-Elphaba or Glinda?
Becky: Keala Settle
Dawn: Carrie Hope Fletcher maybe? Stage door would probably be chaotic; Sara Bareilles fans mixed with CHF teen girl crazies.

This is a genuine question, is Sara Bareilles a box office name here?

Isn’t Dawn traditionally of Asian desent? I’d like to throw in Eva Noblezada as dream-casting for Dawn, I think she’d be fantastic but I’m not sure if she’d do it, and she may still be busy with Hadestown by then anyway. Another good choice could be to bring back Jenna Ushkowitz, which could get a few Glee fans in.

Yes to Jenna Ushkowitz. Absolutely not to Eva, she leaves me cold.

I'm afraid I'm not bothered about either of the big Broadway shows coming over. Can't say I'll be booking at full price but might give them a go if offers. I think both will be hard sells once the fans have been to see it. But I don't want to be negative so wish them both good luck.

This is great news for me. I’m starting to plan stuff to see in NY in October, so with this opening next year, it gives me more options in NY. Hopefully it’s opening will coincide with my trip to see Come From Away in Feb, though failing that, it can be part of my London theatre birthday week in May.

Siubhan Harrison in the most appropriate role would get me there for sure.

On the other hand, I'm happy because the announcements have freed up a couple of slots in my November New York trip that would otherwise have gone to Waitress and Come From Away! Although having said that, Waitress does appear to be the only Broadway show playing on Thanksgiving evening so I might end up seeing it anyway given how expensive tickets to the Rockettes Christmas show are...

Joanna Riding could play much younger but yes - she may be a little too advanced in years for this role. Barrowman is a bit older too but you could pair them together. The role of the Doctor is a boring role anyway. Its really all about Jenna. I saw the show with Jessie and again with Sara as I thought it may be better and it wasn't. It's just a very mediocre show with medicore music and mediocre dancing. Fleeshman is actually perfect for this role and Company will be over unless it extends,

The BWW forum is suggesting it's going to be Katharine McPhee and Jason Mraz - not sure how reliable the posters in question are as I only occasionally lurk there, but that would be fine casting as far as I'm concerned!

I'm not so keen on McPhee. She seems very blank and I was told that she was the weakest of the NYC Jennas.
