Finally caught up with WAITRESS at today’s matinee. Overall, my impression is that it is an enjoyable and entertaining show, but somewhat underwhelming.
I found the first act quite “panto” if I am honest. Everyone around me was rolling with laughter, but I didn’t really get it. The second act was so much stronger, as we finally arrived at the emotional crux of the piece, and it was ultimately quite moving from “She Used To Be Mine” onwards. I did well up with tears during Jenna’s confrontation with Earl in the hospital.
I did like the performances (with the exception of Jack McBrayer who gave one of the worst vocal performances I have heard on a West End stage, and seemed to gurn his way through the material). I certainly am glad that I saw Katherine McPhee as Jenna.
The one thing I really did love though was the choreography. I have to say it is not something that I usually notice, but I loved how it flowed from one thing into the next, and how subtle it was, making so much out of a small movement.
So, enjoyable and entertaining, but not a classic, and something I doubt I will return to.

The latest offer is laughable - A free signed programme and ice cream (Band A/B/C). Only available at Mondays performance. Mark where is this offer please? Also is it def a signed programme or could it be a signed poster? On David Hunter’s insta stories there are a ton of signed posters on the stage which must be for smtg and I really want one! They’re the new posters in this form, which are so cute 😍, with the caption “she’s done taking orders” http://instagram.com/p/BxAid2EnDR5

You just need to use promo code WaitressFan when buying a ticket via the official site. And yes, you get a free signed programme and an ice-cream. Though in my confirmation it just says "free programme", so I'm not sure it's actually signed?

Hi btw does anyone Know who the new Jenna is ? I’ve heard it could be Lucie Jones. I’m excited if true I love Waitress and Think Lucie will be amazing. I’ve heard this too which makes sense as she was on the broadway Billboards. Although I’ve also heard she might be going on sooner to cover holiday. Which I think would be odd if true. Especially for the existing covers.

We would have the new Jenna.

Has anyone sat in Row U or V in the stalls? How is it for the view on this show?
I've been a bit on the fence about seeing it but would really like to see Katherine McPhee and these rows seem good value.

I found the vast space above the set to be quite distracting. It’s like the two upper thirds of the backdrop is just blank and never changes. You’ll miss absolutely nothing. Some seats round the sound desk are marked red on tm’s site. www.theatremonkey.com/ADELPHIstalls.htm#

From Waitress’s insta stories, anyone who is going tonight should DM the account their section, row and seat number for a chance to win one of the posters! 👍 http://instagram.com/p/BxHW5iUn1Vj

Anyone wanting to go to the 100th performance tonight, I checked the website in the hope it would be a full audience for their celebrations and whilst the Upper appeared closed again, they've released a bunch of seats up their for £29.50 so anyone wanting to go on the cheap, there are central tickets up there for that price and it's a great view.

Does anyone know if Kat has got any planned day offs? I don’t think so (unless she’s missing this Friday’s performance for the Magic at the Musicals concert at he Albert Hall?)!

The show should do more of this kind of thing.A few scribbles on posters/programmes and a tub of ice cream isn’t such a big deal if it can help shift tickets.Everybody likes a bargain.

Looking out at curtain call to a half empty theatre every night they know they have to do something so I'm sure they need to pull it out of the bag to do these little bits of promo and deals and they probably want to do it to get more people in.

Let’s not overegg it, the theatre has not been half empty every night at all! 🙄 Sure some midweek performances have had the upper section closed but when that’s the case the other 2 sections are pretty packed. And fwiw the last time I saw it on a Thurs a few weeks back all 3 levels were open, and when I saw it a week last Fri the theatre was packed. And this poster giveaway is just a nice thing to do for fans for its 100th performance. If they were doing it as a sales promo also they woulda announced it days ago and not just on the day! But they’re hardly gonna give 1,000+ posters away to every single person in attendance tonight. That makes zero economic sense!

Clearly they want it to be as full as possible tonight!

I can't do the math so I just rounded up to half full, I agree I shouldn't of said every night tho so my bad, apologies. I agree with you that it's very unrealistic to sign 1,000+ posters every night. Maybe a limited amount in the Stalls like expensive seats? See if that shifts some tickets in the best place to get coin? 😂

See if that shifts some tickets in the best place to get coin? 😂 Upper Circle is just over 400 seats in a 1,500 capacity theatre so rounding up to “half full” is hardly accurate! 😜 Of course I get that for a 1,500 seater venue Waitress isn’t selling amazingly (at least not midweek) and that’s gonna affect how long the show will last, but it’s just a bit weird and petty to me that people here seem to take so much glee in claiming Waitress is some flop that no one is attending when in terms of actual numbers it’s selling and being attended just as well as, say, Come From Away (and that’s with limited discounts). Like just a quick check of tickets for tomorrow’s performance and over 1,000 tickets have been sold already. Waitress was never a show to fill a 1,500 capacity theatre but FLOGGING. DEAD. HORSE. with this point lol! I’m just gonna enjoy the show for as long as we have it 👍

Btw I don’t think anyone posted this yet but Perry O’Bree posted this YouTube vid of David, Marisha, Kat and Laura performing and doing a Q&A at Yamaha London a week last Saturday! It’s a fun watch and the cast all seem on very good form.
Doesn’t sound like a cast album is happening though, although Kat said they’ve pushed for it so I guess we’ll see. 😩

I suspect we will still see it around until the end of the booking period at least so there is plenty of time too! I need to really book for me and my friend, she's desperate to go and whilst I'm not particularly fussed I wanna see cast development considering I only saw the fifth preview. I may get her tickets for her birthday and go from there.
