If they get Keala Settle in then that will sell a lot more tickets, her name isn't necessarily known in the main stream but if they advertise it as Keala Settle from The Greatest Showman and plaster her face on every bus then it will resonate with the public/toursists.

What am I missing here? I have not listened to the entire OCR but those songs I have heard do nothing for me. I am thrilled for those people who are excited by this - but will it resonate beyond those who already know the score? The movie it is based on is certainly not a known quantity. It sounds like a chamber scale show in a large-ish house - which will only make it more of a challenge to sustain. I may well be wrong - and that is fine. It is good to see new shows coming into the West End. But I just find it hard to see how it will establish itself. What is a “chamber scale show”?

A chamber scale show - small cast, small band
Waitress has 9 principal roles plus one child and a small ensemble. It is scored for a band of 6 players. That makes is quite a small scale show

Oh exciting, another excuse to book a London break and squeeze some other shows in.

Hi! I've been reading this board for quite a long time but I finally decided to create myself an account here after reading this great news, I'm really excited! I'm not from the UK, but I'm glad this is finally coming to Europe.
I wish Jessie Mueller would come to play Jenna, but I know that's just wishful thinking.

Awesome. It's an enjoyable, easy to watch show without it being totally brainless, and the songs are super catchy. And I'm so happy that they picked The Adelphi, which I think is my favorite West End venue. It's just the right size and the facilities are super. Seeing it there would be a nice change from the drab theatre in New York where it's currently playing at.
I'm looking forward to the casting announcement. Rachel Tucker doesn't exactly read broken and vulnerable. She's got an assertive presence and is best suited for roles that have that quality. I have doubts Sara would open it, though I really would like to see her again as I much preferred her rookie debut over the over-calculated performance by Jessie Mueller.

My concern is the size of the Adelphi - without star casting, I think this will struggle to fill the Adelphi. I am very excited to see this show though.

Great news and also Ryan's comment about Katherine McPhee is one of the most cutting even he has ever come up with. Her current beau David Foster produced most of US Supergroup Chicago's power ballads back in the day too. Ha! One of Mrs Merton's very best!

Wonder if it is coincidental that The Great British Bake off is about to begin on Channel 4 and this gets announced.
Still they could get Mary Berry to make her West End debut as Jenna, that would be very interesting.

I’m glad that everyone is pleased by this, but I really just didn’t get the hype? I think largely due to the cast (I thought Katherine McPhee was poor) - Sara’s score is good, but I’m just not excited. Need to get Evan Hansen announced soon - that’s a show I need.

But seriously.
Waitress is a brilliant musical and as others have said in a theatre way too big, I agree they will need a name to sell tickets, so wonder if Sara Bareilles will reprise her role, I hope so.
Anyway we can all be happy, as 2 great musicals are coming over, this and Come From Away, so if Hello Dolly announcing that will be the icing on the cake (Ok sorry).

Won't this die a death at the Adelphi?
Or have you all clubbed together to convince Sara it's the right venue so that they'll have to discount the life out of it and you'll all get cheap tickets? Oh you naughty naughty devils. Poor Sara. And she seems so lovely too.

I'm not really all that excited about this show arriving, but I prefer the score to the noisy mess that's Evan Hansen and I'll be happy to give it a chance once it arrives. I do wonder how well this will be selling, considering it relied on star casting even on Broadway and the Adelphi is quite a large house to fill.

They're already saying that it's Katherine McPhee. And apparently she was very good on Broadway.

Really pleased to see this is coming over- although I’ve not heard the soundtrack, I adore the film so will book on that basis alone!

Welcome to the board elp . Delighted you will get the chance to see the show, so welcome also to London when you arrive. Thank you so much! I'm actually travelling to London in two weeks and I'll see a few shows, I'll have to save for a trip next summer ^^. By the way, Carrie Hope Fletcher is being really subtle on twitter saying she wants to see the show and that When He Sees Me is her favourite song, do you think she's hinting she'll be Dawn? She has a pretty large fanbase and would fit in the "star casting" category to fill seats in the venue, plus she has pipes.

I could probably accept her as Dawn, just as long as they don't cast her as Jenna!!!

LaLuPone not officials but this person seems to be confident and connected to the creative team (or something). But I always take these things with a pinch of salt and we all know what I think of people who pull things out of their ass. Re: Carrie Hope Fletcher, she seems to be against type for Dawn. I actually could see her as Jenna down the line, but she really needs to tone it down. I've seen her and Les Miz and Heathers and she's very broad. A great young West End talent though - I think the attention is somewhat justified despite being very loud. Did I ever mention that I often read her name as Carrie Hope Feltcher? I thought everyone ought to know.

I am also in the camp of will give this a go with an open mind when it arrives (assuming can get a discount).
But I really do not get the love for this show - the CD I find so bland; sort of easy listening light pop. That said I am indifferent to Evan Hansen and think I actually dislike the Come From Away CD, so what do I know lol.

I agree Carrie could be a good Jenna one day, but she doesn't feel like a Dawn. Wait it out Carrie you'll be old enough for all these things all too soon!
Katherine McPhee was apparently quite good, and I trust that none of this is a rushed/cobbled together job so the creative team have thought it out. Keala Settle would be a smart choice to sell tickets. And they could also find a 'name' for the Doctor as well.

They've been chasing Samantha Barks for a while now, but with Pretty Woman selling out, unless the reviews catch up with it soon, she won't be doing it.

The Adelphi could be a smart move, as it feels fairly intimate on all levels. It it's busy, it makes money, if quieter, you don't really notice a level closed there. I think it will work. It’s not unusual for a show to opt for a bigger venue either due to theatre availability or choice. Jersey Boys went to the Prince Edward and was there for 6 years until it moved

What if this is the announcement Rachel Tucker was talking about... *intense fangirling* she was auditioned for it a year or so ago! I don't know what ever came of that, but she was certainly on the producers' minds at some point in the process.
