Just back from this evening's performance and WOW. It takes a while to get going - I feel this is the musical itself not the production - but when it does get going... it's wonderful. The leads will win awards for sure. The staging is simple but very effective. The big numbers work very well indeed. Can see why this is coming back next year.
Other random thoughts:
The actor playing Tony is utterly delicious. They have mugs and totes for £10 each and coasters for £4.50 with a lovely design on. What's the deal with not selling programmes after the show? Crazy! I walked all round and not a single one on sale!

More major, there was a loud crash about 10 minutes before the end of Act 1. An elderly lady ended up collapsed in the aisle (she had fallen off her seat a row or two behind me). She couldn’t get up and, from the conversation I could hear, I don’t think she should feel her legs. She was helped by the staff, but remained in the aisle throughout the interval. Customers were sent out through other entrances. I was shocked they restarted for the second half with her still on the floor. Paramedics arrived about 15 minutes into the second half to take her out. I hope she is okay. I'm amazed they not only didn't stop the show but re-started it after the interval. Someone collapsed just after the start of a performance I saw at The Other Palace studio in January & they immediately stopped the show, herded the audience out & made everyone wait in the lobby for about 40 minutes until the paramedics arrived & removed the casualty. Admittedly that is a small theatre so I can imagine in a bigger theatre you might be able to get away with keeping going till the interval, depending on how near the casualty is to the stage, but to then start Act 2 with someone still lying on the floor seems ridiculous.

I would guess that in the confined space of the REX theatre in the round ‘space module’,everybody in the auditorium would have been aware of the incident and it should have been incumbent of them to at least delay the show. After all, some poor individuals’ health/safety comes first before a piece of entertainment, surely?

Just to remind everyone that public tickets for next year are on sale now and selling fast!
Have put two bookings in (with the hope that I can return tickets if the dates don't work out), as I don't think there will be that many good seats left in a day or two.

Last time I ended up with an extra ticket for something and tried to return it they refused. Their official policy is: I suspect I'll be able to attend anyway, but I don't think returning would be a problem for this production.

What crap customer relations when you do not offer a credit note? Because, in the theatre industry if they did that - everybody would book, read the reviews then demand a refund. It would collapse. Sad but true. It's what makes how to deal with returns so very difficult. But a lot of theatres already offer credit notes and they are surving

Has anyone sat in row B in the 1st gallery in the 20s seat area? What is the view and comfort like?

Does anyone know if you can apply the student/under 26 discount when ringing the box office on the day of the performance trying to get an unsold/returned ticket?? Or an estimate of how much it'd cost for an unsold ticket?

Wow this has been transformed since I saw it at the start of the run (and it was very good back then!). On point in every single respect. Dramatic, emotional and that fabulous score played to perfection.

Oh Burly. Don't do that. I was happy with the one viewing and now have the urge to go back. Might try my luck day seating, but I know they are still getting a queue daily.

Sorry! I’d recommend going back if you can make it though. It was ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ from all 5 in my group.

I've bought a ticket from someone off Gumtree and I've only just realised it's an Over 60s ticket! Does anyone know if I'll even be allowed to use it (I'm 17) or should I lie and say it was a present from my nan and she accidentally put her age??

If you don’t want to risk being collared by the FOH who checks your ticket (unlikely but possible) why not ring the box office, explain, and offer to pay the difference. If you’re a student you might find there’s a concession that makes the price similar or maybe even less than face value. Either way the difference to pay isn’t going to be huge.

Seriously though, in your situation, although the ticket price is unlikely to be checked by a theatre usher who concentrate on the date and seat number, I would have to phone the box office to check otherwise my trip would be ruined as I would be so nervous I was about to be found out, humiliated and asked to leave!!

If not, I think you should take it up with the seller. They should be able to arrange a return through the box office and for a correct ticket (likely also discounted) to be sold directly to you. Otherwise, you can risk it, particularly if you can enter with a crowd of people, or if you find an usher who has to look very closely at the ticket to read the seat number (so you just tell them instead). I wouldn't risk it, but that's just me. This won't work if they make the discounted tickets obvious in any way (for instance, printed on different colour paper).

Day seat victory. Arrived at 8:30 to a queue of 12, which turned into a queue of 20 just before 9am with the usual straggler comments of "oh I didn't expect a queue", etc. Overheard some strange comments including "oh I don't like West Side Story at all but I read that this is good so I'll sit through it"... Is that a done thing now.. going to a show you don't like because the reviews have been good?

Really hard to get tickets...she’s so hardcore and clearly an all round better human than us. She kind of liked it but then one of the ones whats in it liked her check in, then another one of the ones whats in it liked the picture of her Taco Bell on snapchat so she said that made it worthwhile. I love Taco Bell don’t you? She said it was right there on a bridge up an escalator! Manchester sounds epic. I just wish Carrie and Luke were in it is all. They’d be great.” 😂😂😂

why not ring the box office, explain I'd go with the gran story, except that they can check the original purchaser and if they discover it was a known tout who does that kind of thing regularly, or that you were sold one of a bunch of 6 so it looks odd... It's the reason not to buy from anywhere except the box office or bona-fide STAR agent, really. The ticket was £29.00 for her with her over 60s discount but she sold it to me for £20 so I think it'll be okay. On my way to Manchester now and I am gonna go with the nan story and act dumb. Also will hold the ticket so my fingers hide the over 60 bit and the price.
