Wow! Judy Kuhn hasn't been tempted to do a show in London in thirty years. I suppose her brief run as Golde in New York, and a reunion with Trevor Nunn was enough to capture her attention. Fiddler has never been one of my favourite shows, but Judy just made it a much more exciting prospect.

I was right - she pushed me over the edge to buy a meal deal for my mum for Christmas (i always find Menier tickets don't seem quite so expensive when you consider the 2 course meal you get alongside!) Now I've just gotta hope that i don't have an Aspects of Love repeat,w hen i booked specifically to see Michael Arden and then he wasn't on when i went.... |

Judy didn't transfer to Broadway with Sunset as she became pregnant with her daughter at the time. Alice Ripley played Betty on Broadway, so Judy is perfectly welcome at the ALW memorial pool!

She did a week at the Hippodrome cabaret venue about six years ago and was superb. She even mentioned Metropolis! Shame she wasn't brought over for FUN HOME.................

Her Hippodrome week in October 2012 was indeed superb! She was also sublime in a couple of Hugh Wooldridge's 'Night of 1000 Voices' concerts at the Royal Albert Hall in May 2002 and May 2003 - she sang 'Someone Else's Story' at the latter.
I hadn't booked for 'Fiddler On The Roof' before she was announced today, but I have my ticket now!

Judy Kuhn is the only thing that would get me to sit through Fiddler again. Saw her twice in Passion and four times in Fun Home and have been eagerly awaiting her next role.

This might be a naive question but is there space at the Menier to have a fairly full orchestra for this or will it be VERY reduced? It must be tricky at the Menier especially!
What's the best orchestral setup they've had?

The whole run is now sold out! I suspect, like most Menier shows, keeping an eye on the website regularly will show tickets for shows eventually. 🙂 I've never understood why this show is so popular. It's fine, but it's nothing special. It doesn't do anything for me. |

Just seen the second preview and this is a very enjoyable production. The Menier space is skilfully used and somehow felt larger than normal. Sir Trev, present at this preview, and, as ever, resplendent from head to toe in blue denim, has coaxed some really subtle performances from his excellent cast. This is essential in this musical otherwise it can fail to engage and drag. Andy Nyman seemed a little nervous for the first few minutes but then was fantastic - the best Tevye I've yet seen. I enjoyed last year's Chichester performance but this is infinitely more nuanced. That being said, the ending moved me more in Sussex, but I guess this will deepen by press night - it was very tight for a second performance.
Definitely recommended and great to see things back on form after Brigstocke's p*ss-poor Barnum.

Anyone noticed on the website it asks if you want to be updated with news of a transfer?
Wouldn't surprise me if it's already booked in, dependant on reviews I imagine.
Perhaps a nice fit for The Playhouse after Caroline, or Change?

The Yiddish-language production in New York, currently at the Museum of Jewish Heritage and slated to transfer to off-Broadway's Stage 42 in February, was, I thought, marvelous.
