It is interesting that they've gone for a Sondheim after seeing Storyhouse's A Little Night Music repeatedly mentioned in the AoL thread.

I saw the first production of this at the Old Fire Station here in Oxford. Directed by Julia Mackenzie, with Diana Rigg, Kit Hesketh-Harvey et al.
It was a great evening - with Dame Diana forgetting her lines completely and having to start again.
It needs a cast full of personality to make it work - so that is their challenge in Manchesterford.

I wasn’t crazy about Little Women either but appreciate that it was popular with others. This sounds more like a Sondheims Gretest Hits concert with a loose narrative to pull it together than a proper show. Less to muck up.... maybe? Did anyone see the West End revival in 2014? It was a very short run according to wiki. |

Spring Awakening had a substantial and fantastic band! Still a hard production to beat IMHO Oh absolutely, Hope Mill did a wonderful job with Little Women, Spring Awakening. Pippin and Hair. You really got a sense they were creating something magical and punching well above their weight. Hopefully the budget orchestra for Aspects was just a one-off, it's a venue I think everyone who visits is willing to succeed. |

I recommend this show to all MT fans and it’s not often you can say that about Uncle Steve Indeed, it was amazing, a true five star event. Will have to think about booking for this. |

I think I saw it in the London suburbs with Janie Dee one of Alex Parkers shows. Really enjoyed it. They also showed the Broadway production with Carol Burnett, Ruthie Henshall and John Barrowman at the Odeon Leicester Square. It was one of the first shows recorded in HD and shown in cinemas.
It's on DVD as well, and the extras include the moment at the final performance where Carol Burnett had to stop the show mid-song because her skirt was about to fall down, and then John Barrowman fell about laughing and split his trousers.

I saw the 2014 production both in Guildford, where there were I think only 4 performances, and when it transferred to the then St James for a couple of weeks. I thought the cast were amazing and for someone like me, who likes Sondheim's music but has a problem with many of his plots, it was great to hear some songs in nicer contexts. For example, "Unworthy Of Your Love" was done as a hot love song rather than the strange obsessional number I understand it is in Assassins.
