My rule of thumb: if a play is announced early enough that I could choose a performance on any Saturday of the run, then it's early. If I have to make a special week-night trip or shuffle some things around or pray that there's a decent ticket for the *one* slot I have left for the rest of the year, it's a positively *late* announcement. (Most theatres run somewhere in between where I don't have total personal availability but I still have a solid number of Saturday performances to choose from, which is workable. The Wild Duck *will* require some shuffling so is late by my standards if not by anyone else's. )

Yes, surprisingly painless. Completely forgot booking opened today till 10:30, only had 10 people in front of me in the queue and got my favourite £20 seat for the only Saturday matinee I can do!

Tickets for this bought easily enough! Yep me too. Front centre stalls for the date I wanted. Confirms my suspicion you get a better choice of seats on the first day of public booking than the first day of members booking (based on me having done both many times over the years).

No problems here either, apart from a blip where I remembered at 8:30am that they went on sale and then forgot again until after 10am. I see we've gone back to the 7:30pm curtain time, hopefully this bodes well for a shorter performance than we usually get out of Icke...

^This time around, member booking had the entire house on offer. Did it ? Interesting. Maybe their high membership prices have resulted in them having fewer member ? As a member it was hard to get a decent top price seat for Icke’s Uncke Vanya but as a non-member the best stalls seats were still available for this.

I was very happy to get my ticket for this with no problem. I loved his Uncle Vanya massively. Went for a matinee just in case it's long. Interested to hear casting now.

Members appear to have bought all the middle stalls for the whole run, can't blame them. Robert Icke. Ibsen. Almeida.

It's selling well but there's still loads left in the middle stalls.

I'm wary of what I've heard about Robert Icke and would have preferred a matinee but have taken a double risk by booking for an evening as it fitted into a day when I already have a matinee booked. However, I only ever book really cheap seats at the Almeida now, so if it turns out to be a dud, I won't have wasted much and if it's good, I'll either have a bargain or can try to upgrade. Mealy-mouthed as this may sound, I've had too many poor experiences at the Almeida in recent years, but maybe hope will triumph this time.

Just booked a ticket for the evening show on Sat 27th Oct. Managed to get Stalls B27 for £25. I've read on here about people being worried by the length of this production. If it was going to be a long show then it would have started at 7pm.

Perhaps, but it depends what you mean by "long". Plays starting at 7.30 pm can and do still last 2 hours 30 or 2 hours 45, making a later finish than I prefer in the evening; I think maybe you have in mind something more like 3 hours (or above), which would be quite beyond the pale for me.

What do i mean when using the word 'long?' A play that clocks in at over three hours.

I would rather sit through 3.5 hours of something brilliant than 90 minutes of something dire.
I have had some epic days in the theatre that flew by in what seemed like seconds. And some short trips that felt like an age.
Quality over quantity - sure. But a great piece of theatre can command your attention for 4 hours - it just has to be great!

Absolutely agree with all who say that long can be great and short can be dire - and vice versa - that depends on the work. But irrespective of that, some of us still have physical limitations which mean we can't comfortably sit and concentrate for long periods (and I am not an evening person either, so simply staying awake is an issue for me); plus there is the question of whether we are able to get home afterwards if relying on public transport, as most of us do, and not living locally.
But here's hoping this production is both brilliant and not too long.

Angel Station is closest tube? Haven’t been here before and trying to expand from West End. Saw his Hamlet production last year and loved it.

Yes, it's about 10 minutes walk from Angel Tube, or 15 minutes in the other direction from Highbury and Islington. Alternatively you could get the bus - the 4 and 19 for instance both go direct from central London and stop nearby (St Mary's Church is the stop you want in Islington)
It's a great theatre, the "slightly restricted" seats in the central block of the stalls are very good value if you want to save a bit of money!

For example the Trevor Nunn Othello was over 4 hours but totally engrossing.
