Laura Harrison again tonight from the looks of things. Also Michael Colbourne as Fiyero. I am going again tonight, 4th time I booked this year trying to see Lucie and still no luck. At least I am seeing Laura, Amy was on the last 3 times I went.

What is thought to be the reason for Lucie’s absences?

What is thought to be the reason for Lucie’s absences? I guess there’s the possibility of long covid or an underlying condition we don’t know about but I get the feeling she just can’t handle the role 8 times a week. I really wish they’d just give Elphaba 1 show off a week, every other show does it nowadays. Did Carrie really need 2 shows off a week from Cinderella? I’ve been a fan of Lucie since she was in Rent and did Eurovision and have followed her career ever since so it’s really sad that this hasn’t turned out the way everyone hoped.

I wonder if there were concerns about stamina earlier when she was auditioning but not getting the part. I agree it would have been much more satisfactory for everybody to give her a day off, or the matinees, and publish it so that everyone knew the situation.

Is stamina something that can be vetted during the audition process?

Is stamina something that can be vetted during the audition process? I don’t know that’s why I was wondering. I suppose if you ask someone to sing a big song and they’re gasping for breath half way through it might be a clue. Not that I’m suggesting that was the case of course. I have a faith in the casting process and the very expert people who conduct it that they could spot warning signs though? Dunno really. I just know I’ve sang Elphaba a million times along with the OBC whilst doing a 10k. 🧙♀️ 🙂

Broken record, but I really do think Elphaba should have alternate performing two shows a week. It's a very taxing role and the lead Elphabas should really be getting more support in this respect!

I don't think she performed the matinées at Legally Blonde. It is madness Elphaba is expected to do 8 shows a week.

I’m assuming Being Alive is referring to the performances but I guess we’ll have to wait and see 💀

I was indeed referring to the performances...I've seen Wicked in access of 25 times, and that was probably the worst trio I've seen across all that time.
Sometimes you cant tell when covers are on, unfortunately you could tonight!

Someone has just posted on the MTAS Facebook page "Wow!!! Just got back from watching Wicked for the 4th time and the 2 ladies who played Elphaba & Glinda were the best I’ve seen!! I feel so honoured to have watched Laura and Samantha absolutely own the roles and how they are understudies just blows my mind". Great to see so many different opinions. It would be so boring if we all thought the same

The Glinda I saw last night is not on this even - Carina (2nd cover) is, so would suggest she was possibly feeling unwell. She got a frog in her throat at the end of Popular so checks out actually.

Well, blow me down - Lucie was on this afternoon! She and the Wizard (Mark Curry) were the only leads on. It was also a no fly show, which was a bit of a shame for anyone who hadn't seen the show before. Quite a lot of schools in, all very well behaved.
Glinda was Carina Gillespie (2nd cover) Fiyero - Michael Colbourne (1st cover) Nessarose - Maggie Lynne (1st cover) Morrible - Natalie Spriggs (1st cover) Boq - Joe Thompson-Oubari (1st cover)
The last time I saw Wicked was in the early days of Alice Fearn's tenure, and numerous times before that. This version does not rank up there with the greats, I'm afraid. I really liked Lucie's voice, and she had some interesting acting choices here and there, which were that little bit different. I thought Maggie Lynne, as Nessarose, was excellent, but the less said about the others, the better. With some of them, their diction was so poor that if I hadn't been familiar with the show and script, I wouldn't have known what they were talking about. Sadly Carina threw away most of her funny lines, so no one laughed. If I say Lucie was a class apart, that sums it up pretty well.
Wicked needs a good kick up the backside, bringing in some top leads (not sure if the next cast will cut it) and sharpening up the ensemble and sound.

A no-fly is always quite exciting for the long time fans who have seen the show before! Still yet to catch one myself, or a "witch-switch".
A pity you didn't enjoy many of the cast, but at least certain characters were enjoyable for you.

I’d be really disappointed if I got a no fly show and I’ve seen it quite a few times by now. Defying Gravity is the main reason I’ll pay to see this show time and time again. Flying is literally there in the name of the big song! I’m going next week on a TodayTix deal.
Why would it be no fly - equipment not working, or actors not trained?

Certainly equipment not working, I doubt they’d ever put somebody on who was not trained for the iconic moment of the show. Wasn’t there a period of time on the UK tour where it was broken for a week whilst they waited for a new part to arrive?

Julia Murney did an interview once where she explained how the thing works (once you're clicked in, the computer has to do a full loop check or something to ensure all the safety bits are correct, and if its off by a second it can take longer or not work at all and so the actress needs to unclip themselves, run to the front, and try and riff their way out of it....!)
Also never seen a no fly show, would quite like to.

Laura Harrison's first show as Elphaba was a no-fly show. I was thrilled to be seeing a debut and as soon as I realised it was a no-fly my heart rate went through the roof (I've seen about 40 fly shows!) It is obviously well rehearsed and handled well and unless you compare it to the iconic photo you wouldn't have known you were missing anything I don't think. Still waiting on a witch switch.
