Charlotte Anne Steen (2nd u/s) is making her debut as Elphaba tonight.
I think Laura has been on most of this week and Kate went on last night but is now on holiday.

Laura's currently at the physio for back problems from carrying this show...

Looks like Alexia hasn't done a show since 27th April and only did a handful of shows in April. I wonder if she will last until March next year at this rate.

I see the main three cast members have holiday listed into 2025, this seems to be an unusually long cast run?

The latest episode in the Staged Right YouTube channel is a fifty minute documentary about the politics and origins of Wicked. It’s a deep dive!

Had a free afternoon, so got myself one of the TodayTix daily dozen tickets - after a bit of persistence, snagged Row B in the stalls. Haven't seen Wicked for a few years and I'd say I enjoyed it enough, but glad I didn't pay more than £29.50!
There were times when I couldn't hear the lyrics or dialogue. And overall, it just felt a bit tired.
I believe we had Laura Harrison on for Elphaba and Christine Tucker for Glinda. Both did well, and their For Good sounded great.
Having loved the book, the ending of the musical always grates on me though. Think I've had my fill for a while, maybe I'll revisit in another few years

When I think of the show vs the book it is laughable how simplistic the show is. I love how political, densely plotted & ‘page-turner-y’ some of the plot points are, but it’s a little murder heavy for a family musical. I wonder if we’ll get any extra layers in the films to bulk out the extended running time?

I managed to snag a front row ticket for this Sunday and I also have a ticket for next Friday, which is scheduled to be Alexia's first show back from holiday. Would love to keep my tradition of seeing 2 Elphaba's per visit... saw Kate and Amy in 2023. (This is the second year I planned to see the show during Alexia's holiday without knowing it until it was too late, lol). I really hope to see Alexia and Lucy this time because they were both out for both shows I saw last year.

I revisited this last night only due to the fact I was at Wizard Of OZ matinee and thought it would be novel to do them both in the same day! Lots of covers and no Ryan (thank goodness!) I found it a slight improvement on the tired previous cast but only marginally. This desperately needs a refresh and the sound seems to be getting worse not better.
But I really can’t see how this will last past this cast, I mean we are in the middle of the summer holidays and it wasn’t half full, this must be costing them a fortune in overheads with a large cast and costs on such a large theatre.

Two movies are literally around the corner.
They’ll be absolutely fine moving forward. They’re already casting the replacements. Thank God as this is by some distance one of the weakest and we’ve had two years of them.

The AV is huge, and practically impossible to fill, though... The movies will certainly boost this up, but how I wish the American team came over to refresh the show and took more control. All of the American Witches in recent years have had this very special quality to them. Most of the UK´s (Alexia and Lucy, certainly not), on the other hand, have been awfully bland.

Yes this desperately needs a kick up the pants like Cam Mack did with Les Mis.
The lighting and sound need updating. The actors are sleepwalking. It’s a magical show when done well.
Seeing Rachel Tucker and Louise Dearman (with Mark Evans) numerous times shows how fantastic this show can be in the right hands.

I've been wanting to revisit this but the last time I saw Wicked it was on Broadway the day theatres reopened after lockdown and I fear that is too high a bar.

I just got a couple of free tickets for end of September. Would I get the new cast? I've never seen it and wasn't that interested tbh. But going for free I hope that least it's not too bad.

I saw this on broadway with Brittney Johnson as Glinda and boy was it a completely different show to the one we're stuck with here. Makes such difference when Glinda is spot on, although I suppose it's hard to do Glinda with a British accent.

It might be hard, but Helen Dallimore, Gina Beck & Louise Dearman managed it just fine.

It might be hard, but Helen Dallimore, Gina Beck & Louise Dearman managed it just fine. Agree and add the wonderful Dianne Pilkington to this list also! Definitely! The laughs that she used to get from the role were amazing. Since this era, up to the roughly Suzie Mathers era, there really has been a distinct lack of really humorous or particularly talented/unique Glinda's. Perhaps it's the very specific direction of the production which I often think is such a downfall for the London cast/s. I mean you only have to look at the blocking of the flying section of Defying Gravity. Such a difference from Broadway.

I tried to see Alexia/Lucy together on 4 separate occasions in 2023 and 2024, and never caught Alexia. I got a ticket for her first scheduled show back from vacation this Friday and she called out that night and the rest of the weekend. I don't want to seem like a brat, but I'm a little disappointed. Saw Kate Leiper and Amy Webb in 2023 and Laura Harrison twice this year, with Lisa-Anne Wood and Lucy St. Louis as Glinda twice apiece. Laura/Lucy were fantastic together and Lucy is the best Glinda I've seen since Megan Hilty/Kendra Kassebaum. She may be my favorite.

I've always found the British accents so jarring in Wicked. The Wizard of Oz is such an American story and Wicked has so obviously been written for the American rhythms of speech - the jokes are always a little flat in the London production because of this.
