This looks to be by the person who dashed up at the curtain call to give Cate a present. The gift was a bag, my sources tell me, adding that it was "weird and silly" and that CB looked shocked but tentatively took it. I'm imagining it being handed to an assistant backstage with a crisp "Get rid of this." I am currently reading a biog by one of Queen's roadies, and his description of what actually happened to gifts thrown on stage by fans during gigs is hilarious. It involved creative use of pyrotechnic powder.... |

Also an opinion piece in The Guardian by Suzanne Moore (seek it out if you want, it's written second hand and as sensationalist as you can imagine). I suppose it's at least about the play to 'justify' the titillation but that's the difference between tabloids and broadsheets, a manufactured veneer of distance.
Can anyone give an idea of the directorial style being used? Any of her multimedia work or actor focused? More like Mitchell's stripped back naturalism or like Cleansed's 'Total Theatre plus'? |

There is an element of pretentious
In everything CB does
Just look at her choice of stage roles
Although Gross Und Klein was very demanding of her
Although even she is not immune to decisions
As stupid as Oceans
For all the talent she has
There are many many lesser actors
Who have made a lot more money and use
From their skills
I do agree that she is overlauded
For a comparatively small body of work
Nicole Kidman for example would create a bigger draw

My friend ended up returning the ticket she got me for tomorrow night that I couldn’t use, so there will definitely be one ticket going back on sale!

The play is fine
Pretentious as expected from Crimp
The direction is good
The acting is excellent
There is an air of foreboding
As well as slight tongue in cheek
Poking fun
Almost pantomime or charade like
Exploration of gender based roles and sex
Some uneasy elements
Mocking fat people
Poor people
And so on and so forth
It’s slightly too long
Dillane who I usually find annoying
Is actually suited to this role very much so
Blanchett is very good and suited to the role physically
Loved Mrs Jewkes she made me laugh
Overall loads of the lines are actually bullsh*t
More exploring thoughts and ideas
The strap on bit seemed an EXACT copy of Madonna
Which she did in Up for Grabs
In conclusion
It’s fine
Nothing earth shattering
There was enough trademark Mitchell and Crimp to sate me
But it’s far far far from Mitchell’s heyday
Of Waves
Attempts on her life
Iphigenia
Which are iconic and didn’t need a named actor to be a success

There is nothing shocking
These elements are more ridiculous if anything
There is some brief violence
Hardly Congo war level
And if the sight of a strap on shocks some people
Then I am glad I am not them
I have seen more shocking things on the high street

Was it like Congolese war level violence or more at the dildo scale of things? Or maybe just the prices in Waitrose and sadness at Woolworths closing down? |
