Faulty Towers the musical is inevitable then. Hasn’t Dinnerladies been done already? This along with the Only Fools update makes for some very uninspired and unexciting news. |

I love Father Ted but if Graham Linehan were to unexpectedly fall down a deep well, I wouldn't bat an eyelid. Got some deeply unpleasant views that make it hard for this audience member at least to separate the art from the artist...

This seems like a really bad idea and I find it hard to believe that Graham Linehan wasn’t having a laugh when he was quoted about this project ( unless maybe he thinks this is going to be to Catholicism what BOM was to Mormonism?).
I believe Neil Hannon would be more than capable of writing a musical - he already made a good fist of it with his contribution to ‘Swallows and Amazons’, but other than that, it seems like a very dicey idea.
The biggest problem for me would be finding a core cast who can successfully fill the big shoes of the original TV cast.
Those actors so inhabited their roles, that impersonations would be bound to disappoint FT fans and a fresh take on them would be risky too, particularly if the core audience are people who loved the series.

He comes across as a complete cock on Twitter, the sort of person you'd cross the road to avoid. Fun fact - he also seems to like searching his own name on that there Twitter, so post an anti Graham tweet and see how long it takes for him to respond in a rage. |

Its the same with the proposed OFAH musical as well. I think they'll both sell to begin with on the value of the brand but after the first few weeks it'll most likely come down to what the reviews are like. |

I don't understand why they have to turn everything remotely successful in one medium into a musical or play? Oh yes, money. Because it has devoted fans that you can then drag to the theatre. Which annoys me. If you do something and your main motivation is money, you should maybe reconsider whether it's a good idea in the first place [and yes, I am aware how incredibly naive I sound right now].
Nevertheless, if this is an actual thing, I will try and get tickets but I just really hope it will not destroy the legacy of Father Ted.

Do they get ‘name’ Irish actors who can sing, do they get unknown Irish actors that can sing, or do they get ‘name’ UK (or American/European) actors putting on dreadful diddly oi oi oi Paddy whackery accents - it’s a tough decision (and with regards to OFAH - a Regionally Prounounced version of a Sarf Lahndan accent?)

Chat about this with Neil Hannon on Radio 6 just now.
Still in workshop mode with actors and routines, the bulk of it fleshed out but some problematic scenes.
Not expected anytime soon.
Must say, in a dramatic turn of opinion, having heard some of the newer Divine Comedy* stuff I now think this could be pretty good.
*Norman and Norma etc
