Can we *Spoiler* the joke? Not see it but feel left out haha {Spoiler - click to view} Summer sings 'Memory' and Dewey says (paraphrased): "I never want to hear that song in this room again", a reference to Cats premiering in the New London Theatre.
As I said in my review, it's one of the more genuinely funny meta lines I've heard in a show and it got a round of applause when I saw the show.

On the issue of stereotypes, I think it was my review that initially sparked the discussion, as I did take issue with how the gay parents were portrayed. I agree that all the characters in the show are in some way stereotypes, but feel that the gay parents are a mis-step, as it is just too easy in my opinion. It is just the default position when playing such characters, and particularly in what is essentially a children's production such as this.
I also didn't mention the sound issues in my review. At times, I found the lyrics and some of the dialogue to be incomprehensible due to some dodgy sound, which was a real shame.

I must say that actually I think to have homosexual parents works very well. I don't think that they both fit the stereotype at all. I think one plays the character like Cam from Modern Family (Emmy Award Winning) and the other is really camp at all. The thing is with stereotypes they are designed for people to realise the persona they are being. I dont think the audience would realise that they were a homosexual couple if they were both 7ft body builders. If they were played this way, the only way this would be recognised is if they played tonsil tennis with each other which is even more inappropriate for a child friendly production! I think there would be more uproar if the were not any same sex couples represented.

It's a sad world we live in if we think that the only people can recognise a gay couple is if they're overbearingly camp.

I think two male 7ft bodybuilders together holding hands is a more accurate description of the gay men I know and love than an offensive camp old stereo typical Nancy boy!!!!

Yes and it is even a sadder world when people get offended over anything and everything and feel the need to view this at every opportunity. overbearingly camp? Really? They appear for about 10 minutes in total and have a total of 8 lines! I would also like to say that I am homosexual I do not find it distasteful or offensive what so ever, nor others who have posted on this forum. I do not understand why people cannot just take the show for what it is and that is a child friendly show. I think that the show should be applauded for having a same sex couple and be slammed because of his 'campness'. If we look around it is extremely easy to be offended by anything and everything that we see in the world.

Serously offensive? As a homosexual, I do not find it offensive, nor have others who posted. I seriously cannot believe the impact such a minor character is having. Like I said if there were no lgbt representation as parents then people could be offended as they feel they arent represented. Furthermore, I watched the actor who plays the part when he was a teacher and I felt that there was a certain amount of campness to his acting then. I honestly believe that people are taking umbridge because he is playing a homosexual character as camp. Whereas he also is playing aheterosexual character as having a certain degree of 'campness' yet people are not batting an eyelid. Like I said in an earlier post, I do believe that people sometimes want to be offended for the sake of being offended. I do think it will get to a stage where producers will not want to take a risk with shows as they feel they will offended someone over such a minor and inconsequential performance and if that were to happen then certain shows such as 'Everybody's talking about Jamie', 'Scottsboro boys', 'La Cage' etc. Will not want to be performed. I think everybody could watch a show, any show, and find something to be offended about.

Real fans will already know, but there is to be a gala performance of School of Rock on Monday 6 November, in aid of Children in Need.
There are even VIP tickets at £140, which include the opportunity to meet the cast.

Joel Montague is joining Fat Friends so I'm assuming a cast change is upon us?

Just read an interview with Gary Trainor - he says he's leaving in November to pursue other roles, but would happily return after six months or a year.

I'm guessing if Stephen stays then he'll become lead with a new alternate?

I'm guessing if Stephen stays then he'll become lead with a new alternate? I would say that's a possibility but not I given. I think it depends on who they find. If they think that Stephen is their best option (as I imagine was the case with Gary) then he'll get the promotion, but if they find someone they prefer then Stephen could well stay where he is.

Seeing Annie at the weekend made me realise how much I love School of Rock. I really hope Stephen Leask gets the Dewey role full time, as he is awesome.
