Even though I did love it - imagine this show with a Hairspray rock meets Elton John type Aida score!!! (You get the idea)...
The show is great. The music is naff and I love Lloyd Webber.

Yeah the score is definitely the weakest part of this. The bit where Dewey is amazed that the kid has managed to write a song as 'good' as Teacher's Pet reminds me of in Rent when it takes Roger a year to write a song as 'good' as Your Eyes. Just cos you tell us they're good songs doesn't mean that they are. Ah well at least you can't blame ALW for Teacher's Pet as that's one he nicked from the film! For what it's worth, I really enjoy the majority of this score, definitely including Teacher's Pet. It's supposed to be a song written by a kid so it's not gonna be particularly sophisticated, in my eyes anyhow! But I just love the unashamed fun of it all, something I don't have to concentrate too hard on, but just admire the skill of the kids! The 'adult' songs in the score I'm neither here nor there about, though I really liked Florence Andrews' Where Did The Rock Go. |

I saw this and enjoyed it. I was worried it was going to drag and build up slowly but rather it got straight to the point. The kids are hugely talented and as ALWs voice at the start says they are playing live.
There's a funny bit at the start when the kids are asked what they can sing and one sings a line from 'Memory' to be told - I never want to hear that sung again. Everyone laughed.
Lots of empty seats and upper level was closed however.

I'm really quite surprised at the reports of how poorly this is doing. I thought it would be a big hit and last for several years. But if whole sections are closed off after only a couple of months into the run that doesn't bode well. Especially since they have had a lot of marketing going on and even TV performances and stuff.
I thought it was great for what it's worth.

Hmm, I saw this a couple of weeks ago and it was packed.
I checked several dates on the official homepage (that leads to see tickets) and there are only few seats left for this weeks and next weeks performances. I wanted to take a friend just befor New Year's Eve and there are only a hand full of very expensive tickets left.
Ok, that's a holiday period but the next two weeks don't look as bad as many described it...

I wouldn't worry about it being quiet. These two weeks are the quietest in the West End traditionally, it's pretty meaningless as a big show averages out takings over a year. It's still not that encouraging for a new musical Particularly when things like Amadeus The Nutcracker Mary Stuart Are sold out |

Parsley's comparison up above is ridiculous. What in heaven's name do sales for a tiny venue like the Almeida (325) have to do with a huge commercial playhouse like the New London?

ALW has lost his Mojo were it comes to scores these days, differently a candidate for one of his weakest, the stark realisation is that he probably needed help with this (pride dented) from a Now/Today modern musical composer. Yes the kids were talented but that's the world these days it is just unfortunate they had to work with that material. It struck me during the second half that parts of the score were very similar to The Munsters theme. |

Were one of you at the New Lonfon just now? Popped in to grab a leaflet for the show and heard one if the best lines ever directed at the Box Office. A woman said, when collecting her tickets "is the lead guy going to bother actually showing up and doing his job this time?".  |

This is about 3 times now. I'm starting to look like a stalker. Or one of those people who hangs around the stage door in a mac with laminated photos of the cast to sign. It's not nice.
