Has anyone sat in the Grand Circle slips at the Prince Edward? Was it ok? I sat in them for Miss Saigon along with my 6 foot husband. Not the most comfortable of experiences, even for me, but from what I remember the view leaning over the rail was ok.
I'm in tomorrow night (far side of row P stalls), looking forward to it. Will report back of course.

Has anyone sat in the Grand Circle slips at the Prince Edward? Was it ok? I have for Miss Saigon and Aladdin. I liked them - at bottom price. It is a very side on high up view. They have removed one side (higher numbers) for Mary Poppins so only 5 U/C slips a night. Worth going for the further back ones (1 is by the wall, 5 is by the rest of Upper Circle) for a better view. I know they have removed some as apparently they never should have gone on sale in January and they must have only just realised as I got a call last week to move my ticket for 2nd November! |

I’ve got Dress a Circle slips for the first time - hoping that all is good with them! Wanted Dress Circle for the overview of Bert’s moment in ‘Step in time’ and Mary’s final flight and they were at a price I could afford!!

It isn’t perfect yet, but i still loved it.
We had a show stop just before spoonful of sugar, because the house stopped and wouldn’t move! All fixed in a few mins and back up and going.
Zizi is giving a COMPLETELY different Poppins to before, and I much preferred it. It’s like they wrote Bert for Charlie - he is SO perfect in the role. And Step in Time has been wonderfully redone and it show-stopping. Really liked both Joseph Milson and Amy Griffiths.
Petula Clark and Claire Moore don’t work for me - Petula is literally walked on and off the stage and it wasn’t a confident vocal either. She doesn’t really join in with the curtain call either. Claire Moore just vocally mossed most of her notes, and just is wrong for Miss Andrew for me.
It’s the tour, with a few added bits of magic. It’ll all be fine in a week or so once they’ve got some shows under their belt and are more comfortable with it.
But I cried BUCKETS at the finale - it is still as spectacular as it always was.

Apart from a few technical bobbles (a two minute stop halfway through act one, and a table in the kitchen set that didn't seem to want to stop moving) tonight's performance was glorious.
Performance wise, Joseph Millson and Amy Griffiths really shone as Mr and Mrs Banks, delivering emotionally layered performances. Claire Machin as Mrs Brill lived up to the character's name, landing every line that she had with great humour.
Gabriel Payne, on tonight as Michael Banks, was a joy to watch.
Petula Clark's role was truly special, and with just three appearances on stage, her voice still really shines.
More than anything, the show's a spectacular. A huge cast, rigorous tap sequences, beautiful costumes and special effects, it really is a sight to see. Harry Potter and the Cursed Child seems to be the only other show in the West End that can rival it on production values.
Two technical questions from someone who didn't see the tour. Was the illusion of Mary's bed appearing, as shown on the Royal Variety Show, a part of the tour? Tonight Mary's bed was just in the corner like any other set piece, which felt a little strange. Also, in Brimstone and Treacle, did Miss Andrews' cage at any point sink underneath the stage? Again, tonight the cage came out from the hall cupboard, and slid back into the same cupboard. I was just curious about those two.
I'd be interested to see what they change in previews. A few of the illusions could do with some cleaning up, but overall it was a spectacular production.

To be fair, watching Petula Clark do the dance to Supercalifragilistic at the curtain call was one of the highlights of my night. However, I'm not sure how the role will work without Petula Clark, as it is very thin. Will they get a revolving door of British National treasures to replace her? How's Mary Berry's singing voice? I'd also be interested in how Zizi's performance as Mary was played differently, as someone who didn't see the tour. Thanks for your thoughts! |

I saw the tour version in Birmingham: yes, the bed appeared as shown on the Royal Variety Show. And again, yes, the cage came out from the cupboard and went back into it. I did hope they would use the original Prince Edward staging for the cage (ie, the lift under the stage)! |
