I've said it before here but speaking of Laura Michelle Kelly - I have such fond memories of that first production in 2005 with Kelly, Lee, and the wonderful David Haig... That production was so magical and dark; it was perfection. The set alone was worth the ticket price. I have a feeling this production will be glossier, shinier, more cartoonish and the set will be based on the pop-up tour set (perhaps with a few tweaks) for financial reasons (surely they won't recreate the full original?)... I'd love to see it only if it will live up to the original. But with Strallen in the lead, I won't hold my breath.

I've always had mixed feelings on the show. First time I saw it with the original london cast I was a bit underwhelmed. But when Scarlett Strallen took over I went again and loved it. Also enjoyed it on Broadway and with Caroline Sheen on the first UK tour. however saw the last UK tour as was quite bored, it really dragged and Zizis voice was quite shrill and for me she just wasn't that strong.
Charlie as Bert is great casting though

Can we talk about orchestrations/orchestra size for this? How reduced was it for the most recent tour? I really hope that it's a nice full sound for the Prince Edward again.

I noticed no issues with the orchestrations when I saw the tour. It was a really quality production, and you would only grumble about maybe the set possibly if you were comparing it to the original Bristol/PE production with the ‘house sized’ house on stage.

That's good to hear!
As I recall the original production didn't have a lot of strings in the orchestrations anyway. Mainly brass/wind and some electric guitar to flesh things out a bit.

Just a little bit quiet - but the average age of the audience was maybe 10 so I guess they have to be stricter on volume. |

Is this planned to be an open-ended run? I’m glad it’s back but I’d prefer if they ran this until January 2020 so over Christmas then a new show in 2020. The theatre is lovely but huge so hard for some shows I guess

I think the Prince Edward could be an option for Wicked in future if they ever want to downsize a la Les Mis. The stage there looks like the only one really wide enough to support its huge set.

I saw the original cast and was quite underwhelmed. I love the songs and the film and had high expectations, but the whole thing lacked life as a production and the added Styles and Drew songs were mediocre.
However, with The Stemp is in this forthcoming incarnation I'm at the front of the queue...

It could easily downsize to the touring size set which is no less impressive. |

Totally agree with you. He's played the lead in a west end show, gone over to Broadway and shared the stage with two threatrical greats in Elaine Paige and Bette Midler. At 23/24 that is some acting CV. I'm sure he has learned alot for his future career from just being around these people on a daily basis. Good luck to him, I'm sure he will be great. |

I saw this tour. I don't see the need for a West End revival now. However, it's obviously to cash in on the publicity from the movie sequel but is a whole year later so I don't know how effective that will be.

Cat A (1100+seats) Minimum £694.67 Cat B (800-1099) £631.91 Cat C (Up to 799 seats) £568.60 They are all minimum weekly fees for west end theatres according to the current Equity agreement with SOLT. Anything over that is negotiated via agents and of course all depends on producers but even for the principals, it generally isn't as high as some people might think. |
