A friend of mine went yesterday and she said it is wonderful, even casting new light on parts that normally sound a bit dull. She is a Globe steward so she sees a lot of Shakespeare; for me, that makes her opinion reliable.

Was there for the first night on Wed, the Globe has been stripped bare and there is no staging to speak of, the actors and the text have to fill the space.
As expected this production is traditional with a twist (ye oldie Thermos flask)
Michelle Terry dominates the production and is an angry, vengeful Hamlet, a welcome change from the introspective introvert Hamlets of late.
Richard Katz is a revelation as Polonius, really brings out the comedic aspects of the role.
The rest of the cast were easing into their roles and expect them to become more confident as the run settles, this is particularly true for Shubham Saraf as Ophelia who came over very self conscious in his traditional dress which should diminish with time.
Looking forward to seeing it again in a few weeks time.

Corrected, my mistake, of course it should have been Ophelia.

Blue anorak man sounds like a Tw*t

Mark Thomas comes over as pretty Tw*t-ish as well.
I find that sort of attitude towards people who disagree with you to be very unhelpful. Yes, some people are reactionary, some people will have a different world view. Disagree with them, debate with them, challenge them. Looking forward to their death really isn't an adult way to behave.

There I will have to disagree. If he was being that loud, the adult way to handle it is to ask them to be quiet and if that does not result in silence, get an usher involved.
Going on Twitter and celebrating the death of someone who disagrees with you is just attention seeking and petulant.

How did he know the young woman was his daughter?
Maybe the disagreement was really about something else going on in the man and woman's relationship which was brought to the surface by attending the performance.
Was this during the performance or after or during the interval? Who knows.
It really tells us more about the attitude of Mark Thomas. We do not know if the young women had or have the same attitude as him. Maybe they when they rule the world would choose to engage in a different way than looking for someone to die.

I think that Mark Thomas knows who his own daughter is...... Whilst I'm here I recommend the DVD of three of his latest shows (all on one DVD) - Bravo Figaro, Cuckooed and The Red Shed - all masterpieces of storytelling. We need more like him.

One old man tells us to ignore the views of another old man because he is old. See the irony ?

One old man tells us to ignore the views of another old man because he is old. See the irony ? Having taught many of them, I can't wait to have younger generations take over. The current ones are lost in trying to find answers for old problems and have little sense of how life is now lived by the majority. Blur anorak guy's age, by the way, is not the issue, it's what he thinks of the world as it now is.

I doubt the kids you teach at your private school have (or will ever have) any idea of how the majority live either. Another thing about Mark Thomas. It is at least arguable that Hamlet should be played by a man because that's what Shakespeare intended. You may not agree with the view but it is at least debatable in a considered way without resorting to abuse. However, there is absolutely no reason at all why up until very recently all stand-up comedians were male. It really was quite extraordinary, up until the 2010s the ratio must have been almost 100% male. Over the 30 years Mark Thomas was benefitting from that closed shop I don't remember him once commenting on it or doing anything positive to remedy it - he just collected the money until he was rich enough to start lecturing the rest of us on the topic. He should check his privilege.

I didnt realise you were such an ardent mark thomas fan that youve see every routine he did. You must have missed the ones where he did rail against sexism (including in the comedy industry) and when he went on tour with female comedian support. Or in his most recent show, where he went to the gaza strip in palestime and taught a comedy workshop to young women on equal terms with the men, and then put them in his accompanying film of the project. I think calling Thomas a hypocrite over sexism is a bit of a stretch.

Having said that, the private school element is also much more wise to the ways of the modern world than my generation and older.
As for Mark Thomas, you've picked the wrong target, as zahidf says.

I’m surprised anyone misbehaving at the Globe gets out alive the ushers there are so fierce...and rightly so I add in case one of you is out there.

It is a very lucrative profession for those who (like him) have had TV series which lead to tours and DVD sales.

I hope (!) you're capable of seeing the difference. Some comedians such as Jimmy Carr and Michael McIntyre make millions, but Thomas's tours are small-scale and his TV series have been far from the mainstream.
