This is now in its last week, has anyone else been? Kathryn Hunter is a little powerhouse dynamo in the lead, as ever, and Ellie Kendrick does well as Christian, but not really convinced of the all-women cast approach. Still, this was enjoyable and well done, with a translation by Glyn Maxwell that might have lost the poetry of the classic Anthony Burgess version but which still balances the comic and the tragic.
House only a quarter full, though, at today's matinee which seems a pity.

I rarely see the point of single sex casting where the text calls for both (and didn't see the need here) but it was an enjoyable, rollicking piece which balanced the fun and the pathos rather well.
Kathryn Hunter is indeed a bundle of energy (even if she did take away my playtext in the first half) and fights an unlikely physique for the part with a great physical attack.
Shame it was not well patronised.

Not sure where to put this, but is there another production of Cyrano coming up? I know there was a production being workshopped in London last month, not sure for who. Some exciting names being thrown around.

Some exciting names being thrown around. Probably not your workshop show, but Philip Breen is directing Anthony Burgess's version for Theatr Clwyd. 14 April to 7 May: www.theatrclwyd.com/en/whats-on/cyrano-de-bergerac/Very nice to see several Clwyd Associates, including Steffan Rhodri, and other regulars in the cast.
