Another 3 year deal signed. Panto will run in 2019, 2020 and 2021. That'll be Aladdin, Sleeping Beauty, Peter Pan or Jack as the Beanstalk then.  |

Jack as the Beanstalk? Maybe I'll finally get to make my debut in London's glittering West End.🙂
People have been calling me a beanpole since adolescence, so playing a beanstalk shouldn't be such a stretch.
Kinda makes all those years of sitting in uncomfortable theatre seat worthwhile!

We are at tomorrow’s matinee. Year before last, the first preview ran about three and a half hours (loved every second, though).
Wonder whether tomorrow will be a similar marathon?

I imagine Qdos will not do Aladdin until 2020 given the Disney stage production doesn't close until August 2019. I think it'll be either Jack, Peter Pan or maybe Robin Hood.
Oddly, Beauty and the Beast is a panto but I've never seen it.

Anything but "Peter Pan," please. Really isn't a proper pantomime, that one, IMHO. I agree, Peter Pan never seems to work as a pantomime , the characters are not traditional panto characters however hard they try to shoehorn in a “Mrs Smee” character, or a comedy mermaid, also the story doesn’t flow in the same way as a pantomime story should , with (for example) all the characters introduced in an opening village scene. Peter Pan is better presented as a play, or a musical if you really must, but it will never be a pantomime . I will never forget being taken as a child to see the late Alistair Sim as Captain Hook , with a young Wendy Craig as Peter Pan. Just magic ! But I’m so pleased panto is not leaving the Palladium, that’s great news! |

I was talking to the people next to me at the Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons concert last week and they were getting ready to perform in panto in The Ugly Duckling (an amateur production). So there are lots of options that just don't get performed that often.
I've never been to a Palladium panto, but I rather got the impression there wasn't much of a story and it was just a loose outline to give all the stars the opportunity to roll out their variety acts. Is that a fair assessment? If it is, exactly what pantomime they choose doesn't make all that much difference (ignoring the fact that some titles presumably sell much better than others).

Yes sadly the Palladium pantos do forget the story a bit too much, but title does matter for sales
qdos do have goldilocks, sleeping beauty, robin hood, Robinson crusoe and beauty and the beast but all are the lesser performed and not as big sellers.
Robin Hood could be an option as Babes in the wood has history At the Palladium and it's basically the same story.
I suspect from a business point of view it will depend on which titles they could do with new sets for.
I hope they don't keep with the same core cast members and mix it up a bit

Excited to see this; it seems to be selling much better than last year - not sure what their day seat policy is. You could always get one on the day for Dick last year.

Well Snow white is a bigger panto name for sales and has a much bigger name as a lead this year so it's not surprising

Dawn French was on Graham Norton last week and was explaining panto to the American guests, and she described it as a variety show, and it took Graham to point out that it did have a story, so I think that's telling as to their approach to it. |
