Loved this yesterday. JC is still rude, crude and very funny. DF makes a great villain in classic DF mode. CS is amazing. I now regret missing Sixpence! GW is astonishing in his Palladium Stars song. Vincent and Flavia are good but not sure why they are needed.
Costumes (especially JC’s) are phenomenal.
Saw and loved Cinderella. Missed Dick W. Really enjoyed Snow White, especially for a first preview.

I wish I was going just to hear that , sounds like a very inventive encore . I’m so happy this very talented and versatile performer is getting the recognition he deserves .

The verdict from this American is...Charlie Stemp is worth the price of admission! He was the main reason I went and he sure didn’t disappoint (and neither did his tights). I found many aspects of the panto to appreciate, but overall don’t think it was for me. It was great fun and the audience ate up, which was great to experience. I obviously don’t have anything else to compare it to but it seems like this was probably the best of the best. Some really amazing production effects. It was spectacular production but overall I just see it as a fun night, nothing supremely special. Glad to have experienced a Panto!

Could somebody also post the musical numbers here please? Perhaps in spoilers for those wishing to avoid knowing!

Well I'm taking a risk on this now for the matinee tomorrow. My first pantomime in many years.
This is rather expensive (and it looks like it's selling well enough they aren't offering rush tickets). So I've gone for one of the £20 standing tickets at the back of the Stalls.
Not sure how far in advance they go on sale, but they've just appeared for all the shows until Thursday (but not yet for Wednesday evening - unless they sold out very qucikly). Might help someone who is looking for a cheaper way to see the show.
Now to remember to pack my comfortable shoes in my work bag for the week!

My goodness this is selling very well. Much busier than last year! Why? Same cast really and the prices are unbelievable! Is Dawn French a big draw? Is Snow White more popular than Dick? So many questions!

So many questions! Yes, I think Dawn French would be. There's also a lot of Strictly fans out there too that will likely be drawn in.

So many questions! This may be controversial but I think Cinderella and Snow White are easily the most popular panto titles. Aladdin, Jack & The Beanstalk, Sleeping Beauty, Dick Whittington etc all are great in their own way but from personal experience tickets for Snow White and Cinderella always fly out the door.

not controversial at all, it's true. I'm pretty sure Cinderella is the best selling panto. Snow white also does well. Jack and the Beanstalk I think is pretty popular
I'm a bit surprised people are questioning Dawn Frenchs popularity

Enjoyed my first pantomime as an adult this afternoon, although did feel rather too young to be there as the average age was about 70.
Can’t report on the standing experience as a kind couple heard me asking where to stand and offered me a Stalls seat. Don’t think anyone ended up standing (at least not in the area I was pointed to behind the Stalls), so they must try and help people find seats if possible.
Apart from that, it seemed very full and the audience loved Julian Clary.
Just as well there were no obvious kids in attendance (despite lots of tongue in cheek “boys and girls” from the cast), as there was lots of smut and a bit of swearing, particularly during a funny tongue twister sequence. Some odd bits of variety (like a low rent gymnastics routine), but generally it all held together.
Everything also assumed you knew Snow White and the could skip the majority of the plot (I would say “ad lib” around the plot. but I rather think most of the lines, the corpsing, even audience interaction was scripted).
The other thing that seemed rather out of place was the dwarves. They were barely in the plot and there roles could have been skipped as easily as other parts. Plus, I’m sure I nearly fell over one of them when he was messing about in the foyer at another show a year or so ago. But they did well for what their role was.
The other strange part. A badly acted sequence with kids pretending to read “rude” lines after the pantomime had finished. I presume they split the dates so they probably haven’t been on much yet and hopefully get better.
I notice they played a very controversial song during the interval too!
Anyway, a good variety show, very British. I can see why people go back every year. Almost tempted to see a “normal” pantomime too to give me something to compare it with.

little bit shocked how ugly and basic the set looks. the recent birmingham/Southampton production looked better. the queens costume is a bit cheap looking too

I hope the costumes are amazing as always! Do we still get sexy men in tights and amazing dresses for the girls like we usually do? 😊

The Drawfs’ House, if i remember correctly is only seen from the outside. It’s lowered slowly from the ceiling (prompting jokes). The door opens, but I don’t think anything more does. Lots of effects. Various pyros (mostly related to the Wicked Queen). No major bangs. One actor is lowered from the roof of the Palladium to above the Stalls. A flying Sleigh. And some 3D projections, such as the Wicked Queen flying on a dragon. Probably a few more I’ve forgotten. And some costumes so challenging to wear they’d make anything in The King and I look like child’s play!

Does Paul Zerden still do his entire act? I’ve never seen him before so I can’t say. But he has a few turns. He does the audience warmup. Lots of cheering. Boy puppet. Lots of jokes about where he has his hand. Swapping voices with the puppet. Abandoning the puppet for them to launch solo careers. He had a different puppet at one point (maybe a lizard). Also does a bit at the end where he throws his voice to make it seem like a child actor is speaking. There may well have been another spot in there, but it’s a bit of a blur.

Having not been to a Panto before, picked up a standing ticket for Sunday evening, not my usual fare but for only £20 not too great an investment, did enjoy the TV special ones a few years ago so who knows.

A bit raised over the seats so you can see and a rail where I hope they let you lean. Also plenty of room. Running time is about 2 hours 40 and you’re right by the bar to get a seat during the 20 minute interval.
