Hmm, saw the William Friedkin film starring Matthew Mcconaughey and Gina Gershon a few years back - good luck to Orlando Bloom (God knows he must need the work) but I’m struggling to picture him in this.

I love Orlando Bloom, so frickin' sexy! And at least he has experience doing an 8 show week after both In Celebration in the West End and Romeo and Juliet on Broadway!

I absolutely can see Orlando Bloom in the Emile Hirsch role as the hapless goon who hires the titular Killer and I absolutely thought that's the role he would be playing. Nope. The film adaptation was part of Matthew McConaughey's transition over the last decade, from being largely a rom-com star to taking more serious & gritty (and award winning) film lead roles. I wonder if it'll be part of a similar trend for Bloom, as he moves on from the Tolkien/ Pirates films.
I hope he does well, but from the film it doesn't seem like a natural fit. And if his fans are mainly teens, I wonder how they will find Killer Joe's bleak & grim tone.

Couldn't get a seating plan and it looks like there's no ATG card benefits available at Traf Studios any more? Wasn't sure where the £15 tickets actually were
- couldn't see Row CC on Theatremonkey's seating plan anywhere so decided to go for the £35 tickets - it gave me row R at the side.
Edit:
Checking a bit more thoroughly on Theatremonkey (damn that 10 minute basket time-out!) it looks like £15 for row CC would have been a bargain. Sod it.

First Lord of the Rings film came out in 2001, so 16+ years now, would you believe. As a member of said 'fandom' (there was a forum, there were t shirts and hats, and we had 'conventions'!) it actually contained all ages, as well as a solid core of teenagers and early-twenty-somethings. But most people drifted away over the past 8-10 years or so as the work dried up and (frankly) dropped in quality - the mods gave up and closed the forum last year, and I only found out after the fact as I'd not been on it for a few months. He's been getting roles again post-Hobbit - though I must admit I haven't watched all them, some looked decidedly ropey. Romeo and Juliet was 5 years ago and I thought he'd progressed tremendously in presence and confidence on stage since In Celebration, even if he wasn't up to the standard of Shakespearean we regularly see in London. We shall see if he comes up with something interesting this time around. There was always a capable actor under the pretty face - as he ages out of it (and he *is* visibly ageing, so I don't think he's going to try the surgery-assisted eternally young thing) we'll see if he manages to be more than that. |

Managed to get a £35 ticket on Row R seat no 1 on the last saturday matinee. Im surprised that my ATG was not recognised during the purchase for the no booking fee benefit. I didnt see anything in the e-mail I received or online that my ATG card wouldn't work for this show. I also dont get why there was no seating plan to choose your own seat rather than being allocated one, maybe an IT glitch?
