Wasn't the Menier Chocolate Factory production of Fiddler on the Roof supposed to tour (presumably scrapped due to COVID)? Would love to see that still happen as I missed it.

I enjoyed that musical. Saw it at Trafalgar Studios a few years ago with Daniel Boys and Julie Atherton. |

The Donmar’s City of Angels. It was one of the biggest victims of Covid, never fully opening its West End transfer. And whilst most other shows have subsequently re-opened or have at least been rumoured (eg. Imelda’s “Hello Dolly”) I’ve heard nothing about that show which I so desperately wanted to see!
I’ll also throw in another vote for Drowsy Chaperone. But don’t take another casting gamble like they did with Elaine. Just bring Beth Leavel over to reprise the Chaperone and show us how it’s done.

Didn't get the fuss on Drowsy at all, found it a bit cringe. But Elaine really wasn't the problem. If Elaine couldn't bring people in no way would Beth Leavel. Is anything they needed much bigger names accross the cast for it to stand a chance with general public |

Shows I'd love to see revived based on enjoying the cast recordings would be The Bakers Wife, Woman of the Year, Wonderful Town and Mack and Mable.
Also I would love for the broadway production of Merrily to return to London with the current cast.

Wonderful Town was revived at Holland Park open air Theatre in 2021. It starred Louise Dearman and in a featured role, a young Billy Nevers who went on to appear in & Juliet, Legally Blonde and Groundhog Day.

Has Camelot ever been revived in recent years, always heard a lot about it but have never seen it as a production. The book is the main reason this struggles to get revived. The score is wonderful. But the dialogue is plodding. There was a concert version not so long back! |

I think it was a little cut. |

Did it work as a piece of theatre ? Yes. It was a strong cast - Michael Jibson and Caroline Sheen leading. And I was so excited to back at a theatre at the time! |

Don't know if it'd already been mentioned but Kiss of the Spiderwoman really needs to be revived (lets get Chita back on the stage) along with Xanadu (purely for its campness).

Problem is with the "old" shows although the music tends to be memorable - which we tend to know from recordings - the books can be problematic as seen through "today's eyes" and most would need adapting. I wonder if Lincoln Center Theatre's recent production of Camelot may help swing the pendulum back in the other direction? Although I liked the new production, the response was almost universally negative. There was a lot of talk about not updating the books of classic musicals; just taking them as they are; or perhaps with just a few tweaks, rather than the major renovations that Camelot received. |
