Hmmm.
The big impact of this show for me was the staging, Rosalie "floating" onstage. The music came second and (for me) wasn't that memorable.

The ticket prices strike me as odd. Normally with an orchestral performance being a little further back would give a better overall sound, but for this the first 4-5 rows are premium price with lower prices further back - am I wrong? It's how theatres are now selling seats, the mid-front stalls at premium cost.
Anyway, I'm gonna think on. But sincere thanks for the heads-up.

That's my concern a bit, from what I've heard, the magic of this show came from the staging. I'm not sure it'll be as "wowey" if they're just standing with microphones. Obviously they'll sound amazing but part of me wants to wait for a fully staged production. Decisions, decisions... |

I didn't see this one coming! I didn't much enjoy this at the National, it just didn't work. The staging was interesting but the novelty wore off after a bit. The best thing was hearing Rosalie Craig sing the crap out of the score. She's probably my favourite West End singer - such an amazing voice. I like the score to hear live, but it's not one I want to listen to at home so I'd consider going to this for sure.

I saw this yesterday (full disclaimer: I loved the original, saw it twice, and have the soundtrack permanently on in my car). Some thoughts: There were some interesting rewrites. All mention of Alexander, Althea's brother, by name, were struck, to be replaced with "the prince" or "my son". One nice little line that came out of it was in Sealand Supremacy: Original: "The golden army's dead, it's as my brother said - that Alexander would turn in his tomb." Concert version: "The golden army's dead, it's as my brother said - the murdered princeling would turn in his tomb." (I just like the word "princeling" I guess...)The casting changes worked perfectly with the previous cast members. Obviously having Hadley Fraser and Rosalie Craig duet was beautiful, and Louis Maskell was a perfect replacement as Llewellyn (originally Kane Parry Morris). I'm always glad to see Laura Pitt-Pulford as she is the perfect Falconer and the perfect perfomer. Trevor Dion Nicholas, replacing Clive Rowe as King Darius, ABSOLUTELY SMASHED HIS SONGS, what a voice. Tori Amos rewrote little bits and pieces to make his character more sympathetic. Speaking of rewrites, the pregnancy subplot was dropped (presumably because no one was singing the character of the doctor), and instead the baby princess was mentioned in passing by a dying King Darius, in a very moving rewrite. He sang that he finally had "family" (repeating Althea's "family" at the end of "my Fairy Story".) And speaking of Tori Amos... she was there  she walked past us in the interval and I about upped and died because, well, you know, it's Tori Amos. She didn't get up onstage, however. Having an orchestra there in front of you playing those beautiful melodies was incredibly moving - but I do think you'd have to be a fan or at least have seen the original to get the full impact of the story. Nothing beats seeing Rosalie Craig upside down belting out a song |

I was also there last night and had such a brilliant time! I forever regretted not being able to see it at the National so I'm so glad I got to hear that score with such an incredible cast! I now get why so many of my friends loved the show so much. As a newcomer to the show, I only struggled a little bit with the plot at times, which I guess is to be expected with a concert performance as opposed to a fully staged one.
