You could well be right @baemax. Alan Bennett from the Bridge perhaps?

You could well be right @baemax. Alan Bennett from the Bridge perhaps? ‘Allelujah! wouldn’t be a bad shout although I suspect they wouldn’t transfer it straight away since the NT Live airing is in November so perhaps Home I’m Darling in November for 10-13 weeks then Allelujah! from late January or early February I do want do see The Lehman Trilogy but a West End transfer is a little risky

Apparently there was some talk at the Nash about a show for schools doing a quick stint in the west end for London schools during the day, with another NT show using the same stage for evening performances.

I have no idea whether he can sing or dance - but I've always thought that Russell Tovey would be great in the part. He's got that effortless Robert Lindsay-eque charm and would do all the fish out of water comedy routines very well - and he's very good at pathos too. True he's not quite from Lambeth - but what's a few miles?! Given this production tries rather harder than it needs to (not a patch on the original or the Sheffield production) - it would be good to have it centred by someone wouldn't overplay everything and who the audience would naturally root for - but isn't too squeaky clean. Funny you should say that, Russell Tovey was actually cast in Half a Sixpence and then bailed out when a better offer came along (tv work)

By the way I knew phantom was pulling our legs about Common and Saint George! But the point is that nothing really has been on at the Nash, outside the Dorfman, that screams transfer apart from.....could it be....after a triumphant Broadway run.....Angels in America?!! Two plays?!
Although can't see that fitting in the Piccadilly.

They'd probably use the set they used for the Broadway run as the Neil Simon has a similar sized stage to the Piccadilly.

Michael Jibson would make a great replacement for Matt Lucas ( assuming he’s had his fill of Hamilton by the time MAMG transfers to London). I still struggle to think who would be the target audience for a museum piece like this and think it would stand a good chance of going the same way as Half a Sixpence. Could be wrong of course, but I was surprised io hear it was transferring, especially given the decidedly mixed reviews from Chichester ( and not just about Matt Lucas).

Yes, unless Tovey was cast first but never announced. in which case they really had bad luck on their leading men. Not sure Tovey has the charm for bill. Gavin Lee would be ideal, Michael Jibson is an intriguing idea too. Charlie Stamp is a bit too young but could work with a new leading lady. Aaron Eckhart would be my choice if they want a name, but I think he will be busy filming Elton John movie. Personally I think the whole production needs relooking at before a transfer (e.g direction, some other castings and even the set design)

There was talk about a WE transfer for Amadeus but I think that fell through?
But back on topic to Me & My Girl - Matt Lucas wasn't the only problem with casting - Jenny Dale as Parchester the solicitor was a total mis-cast and a mis-fire.
The producers will probably need a "name" for the lead role. I don't think it will stand a chance without one.

I thought several people earlier in the thread was saying this definitely, absolutely 100% wouldn’t transfer? Were some of you wrong, or have I misunderstood?
I’m hugely confused, Ted

I said up thread that in my opinion it was not good enough to transfer. I stand by that.
A transfer has not been officially announced. Only a tweet from Matt Lucas saying congratulations to the company on securing a transfer and confirming that he would not be transferring with it due to TV commitments.

I would imagine Daniel E and the Chichester team weren't best pleased with Matt Lucas tweeting about a transfer on 3rd September, because they clearly weren't / still aren't in a position to confirm.

I can't think where this could go, now that the Haymarket and Gielgud are booked up for the next few months. Dominion too big, Duke of York's and Garrick probably too small.

Noel Coward between All About Eve and Dear Evan Hansen?

Yes, that's a possibility.

The only thing that makes me think it won't be Noel Coward is because obviously Cameron wants to refurb all his theatres, and this may be the last time he can do it for a few years should Dear Evan Hansen be a huge hit, which is a possibility.
