It’s a lovely film and having Greig doing the adaptation bodes well. Mark Knopfler composing a musical? Well he scored the original and it’s a good fit both era and location-wise (although thought of as a Geordie, he was born in Scotland). |

This is insanely good news. Local Hero is my all time favourite film, and Mark Knopfler is one my all time favourite songwriters - personally, I find his solo work absolutely kicks his Dire Straits stuff out of the park. Funnily enough, I've always thought that Knopfler's work would transfer well to stage (though I thought more of a jukebox musical based on back catalogue mix of Straits and Knopfler's more recent work). Absolutely delighted and excited to see how this will turn out.

Am I reading this right? Tickets for the Old Vic Run in June 2019 go on sale on 26 June 2018?! WHY?! Why not? Maybe they want to gauge demand? Avoid clashing with the Lyceum version? Release early ahead of Christmas Carol ticket flurry before Christmas? Also, don't underestimate the popularity of Mark Knopfler - one of the greatest guitarists and songwriters the UK has ever produced. Personally I prefer his solo work to that which made his name with Dire Straits, but as he is doing the tunes I'd expect this show to be popular. |

The London "version" will be a transfer of the lyceum production, that runs 23 March - 20 April 2019.

I thought everything had gone quiet at the Old Vic (and on TheatreBoard), so once I'd booked my bargain American Clock ticket, I had a look. Although the Edinburgh leg goes ahead as planned in 2019, Local Hero won't now arrive in London until June 2020.
Although he didn't say much, when Mark Knopfler was talking to Michael Ball on Sunday, he did say he'd found writing the songs really easy and quick.

Oooh you love a bit of whimsy don't you? I guess one needs something to take one's mind off living in The North though. I'm assuming he wrote at least one of them thirty-five years ago - I'll be very surprised (and I do have a ticket for the Edinburgh run) if the finale doesn't somehow incorporate 'Going Home', and I'd expect some of the other melodies from the film soundtrack to be used in the stage show as well.

Intrigued by this especially as a must see in today’s Times, a film where the scenery and locations are as intrinsic as the characters.
The soundtrack Is already strong so adding the lyrics should be reasonable easy for Mark an accomplished songwriter especially as his songs are usually well written stories in themselves.
It will all come down to the staging, being my favourite film will ensure I see it, only reservation is competing with the near perfection of the film.
Looking forward to the initial impressions from the Edinburgh run but would not be surprised if it never makes its way to London.

Really looking forward to seeing this at the Lyceum. There are apparently going to be extra preview dates added but nothing announced yet.
Also wondering why no cast announcement as yet. With a years difference between productions is it likely will be same cast for both?

Rehearsals have began and as from what I’m led to believe there hasn’t been any last minute changes to the cast so there doesn’t seem to be any reason for them holding back the cast announcement. Wonder when we’ll receive it.
Originally it was planned for it to be the same cast for the Old Vic run as it will be for the Edinburgh but I don’t know what the contracts actually say. I’m guessing now with a year’s gap in the schedule it’ll be a case of they’ll be asked back if they’re free if not they’ll recast?
