Apparently decisions on the other rows will be made once rehearsals start. I saw the FTBO sale prices - these are a good price, cos after press night the same seats will be £90+ when the 5* reviews come out.

I'm surprised this is being discounted already. From The Box Office has "£78" (£65 really) seats in stalls from row E backwards reduced to £40 for June/July performances. Looking at the Old Vic website there's no availability in rows A - D there so E may be the front row. It’s not selling well at all so I’m not surprised

Ditto to intoanewlife’s post...booked for two of us for 29/July for E row on FTBO and will definitely go before that date as well...by the way, talking of FTBO,well, for a simpleton like me this ticket agency is absolute child’s play to negotiate! Just got a gut feeling/instinct that this show could be THE highlight of what is shaping up to be an unforgettable MT year...the music is simply to die for (gracious thanks to ceebee for showing me the way!)and I always adored the film. What was that New York Times review for SITPWG....something like, ‘Is destined to be remembered with misty-eyed bragging rights by anybody lucky enough to see this’... well, here’s hoping the same will be said about this show! Thanks to paul26 for flagging up the deal.

What I love the most about this show is the set. It’s so simple but it’s so aesthetically pleasing and beautiful with the projections, the little houses and of course the phone booth. I hope the set designer gets a nomination at the Oliviers for this work.

Thanks to paul26 for flagging up the deal. I've also booked a central seat in row E for £40, had intended to wait for the £10 previews deal but happy to pay £40 for such a good seat on my ideal date. Having already seen Local Hero in Edinburgh I can agree confidently with Ceebee that anyone who enjoyed the film and likes Mark Knopfler's music won't be disappointed. The special offers that are "powered" by Ingresso, like this one from FTBO, are to my mind the best deals around. Wide choice of seats, clear no-extras pricing and easy booking / printing of tickets. I think because I book so many shows I get sent most such deals and will continue to share the good ones that are't seat filling.

I too have booked Row E. I needed a Friday night and luckily there was just one single seat left.... Meant to be. Currently watching the film again.

Having checked the running time from Edinburgh I will have to book a matinee, as even if it has changed a little by the time the production reaches the Old Vic, I csn't risk anything approaching 2 h 45 in the evening.

Given that the cast hasn't yet been announced and the publicity hasn't kicked off on earnest, this is selling well. Anybody remember Groundhog Day? Slow burn turned into red hot very quickly. Local Hero is already a de facto five star hit. Yes, I'm biased, but I didn't write the reviews in Edinburgh. Funnily enough, I think some tweaks will be made, particularly to the pace, and I think the ceilidh will be fleshed out a little more. I would like to have heard Mac sing "The Way It Always Starts" (sung by Gerry Rafferty in the film) as it would be a great way to take the pace down after the caricature locals sing of their dreams of getting rich and also highlight the budding Mac/Stella relationship. Perhaps would work well after "Rocks and Water".
My only concern for this show is how it will carry outside of Scotland, but figure if "Come From Away" and "Sunshine on Leith" can travel so well, why not "Local Hero"?
Those who bought at £40 have bagged a bargain, and I guarantee you'll fall in love with this show.

Time flies when you're having fun! I saw the matinee and final performance back-to-back in Edinburgh and would do it again tomorrow given the choice. Dont hesitate to book - it's too good a show to miss.

For what it's worth, my other half and I saw Local Hero in Edinburgh and have booked again for London - my OH hardly ever goes to the theatre, but wants to see this again.

I just prefer facts and I like to help prevent the spread of fake news Maybe you'll be better placed to judge if/when you see it. Seven 5* reviews, one 6* review, and many 4* reviews suggest you should park your cynicism and fake news vigilantism regarding this production. This is in now way an attack on you ceebee but it fascinates me that of all the musicals to love, this is one of yours! I saw it at the Lyceum, and thought it was so one note and without anything actually happening that I couldn't work out how it had actually made it to stage. The cast did well with what they were given (which was next to nothing I thought...) Love the fact that we can have such different opinions!

I saw it at the Lyceum, and thought it was so one note and without anything actually happening that I couldn't work out how it had actually made it to stage. My interest was driven by the film which is one of, if not my favourite film, and made the trip up to Edinburgh as seeing it in Scotland felt like an opportunity not to be missed. As you say not a lot happens and this is true of the film, it is mainly about the slow enchantment of the people and environment on Mac whose life in America was founded on status through money and corporate success, the archetypal US equivalent of the City trader of the time. This made me slightly reticent as the subject matter would appear more suited to a play than a musical and in both mediums the absence of the spellbinding scenery could diminish the impact. The only caveat, the film soundtrack which is as much part of the film as the scenery gives just enough foundation to build the musical on and loved picking out the themes in the songs and for me it was well worth the trip to Edinburgh and will catch it again at the Old Vic. The fact that the matinee I had booked was cancelled and I had to re-organise my trip, changing my return flight to the next day and an unscheduled overnight stay did not diminish my enjoyment makes this highly recommend.

Thumbs up to the positivity of half-glass full posters such as NeilVHughes and ceebee and much prefer such posts to the cynical negativity of others. LH is brand new to the WE and hasn’t even opened yet...we should always give incoming shows a chance before writing them off.The alternative is the same old shows year after year after year....positive posts surely encourage members and the hundreds of guests who visit the TB site to buy tickets and that has to be good for jobs and the associated economy in the WE. However, this is obviously an opinions site and variety is the spice of life!
As a side note - Just finished reading Ant Middleton’s book called ‘The Fear Bubble’ which talks a lot about how half-bottle empty people always see the worst in everything and are quick to judge to make them feel better about themselves.Made me think about the power of positivity in all our lives.Well worth a read.

The cast did well with what they were given (which was next to nothing I thought...) Love the fact that we can have such different opinions! I agree Souchyboyy - I think differing views are essential to the creative process and enjoyment. I guess I just find it odd that somebody who hasn't yet seen the show seems to almost want to see it not succeed in London. As Neil says, it's a slow-burn film. The beauty is in the way that the piece pokes fun at the natural/national Scots psyche. Healthy cynicism juxtaposed with wild ambition meeting American capitalism head-on. Like the film, people either get it or they don't. I do fear that the London audiences might be too metropolitan/cosmopolitan to grab the subtle parochial humour which resonated with the audiences in Edinburgh. My biggest hope is that a proper cast recording is released. I still maintain, can all the critics be wrong in their praise? It's not a faultless show by any means, and the pace needs tweaking, but I hope enough people turn up with an open mind and heart to enjoy something really special. Of course, some folk might never be swayed - that's fair enough. I know folk who get utterly bored by the film and find the dry humour tedious. Finally, as a twist, I would simply love to see Peter Capaldi take the role of Gordon Urquhart in what could be an epic cameo switch from the film.

Oh completely - I hadn't seen the film before so I guess I went in expecting a lot more plot than I ever was going to get. I will be going to see it at the OV (as I basically see anything they do) and will be interested to see how it's developed. Like I said ceebee , not knocking your love of the show at all, it's just super interesting to see someone with a completely different view point. Happy Saturday and all that 🙂
