I’ve heard great things about the piece but never seen it. Only an hour from London, actor muso style. Looks exciting! barntheatre.org.uk/news/secret-garden-productionDom is a great director and they have Debbie O’Brien casting so should be a proper west end level cast

Fabulous show. The concert they did last year in New York was sensational - be interested to know more about this production.

I love The Secret Garden and would love to see this but Cirencester is a bit of a schlep from not-London. Tbh I can't even see how it's only an hour out of actual London, that's a very bold claim.

Haha sorry I’ve never been, was just going by this on their website “ By train If you get the right train, Kemble Station is just over an hour away from London Paddington. You can jump in a taxi at the station and be at our door within 15 minutes.” I guess it is indeed a schlep but I’ll check it out all the same, sounds a similar schlep to Chichester

Kemble is the stop for the end of the Thames path. The trains are every two hours from Paddington and take an hour and 15 minutes (though there are other trains where you can change at Swindon). I suspect you'd have to pre-book a taxi each way from the station (which you don't have to do at Chichester)
The last train is at 10.46pm so a three hour show could involve sleeping at the station...

The Secret Garden is one of my favourite shows, with a glorious score. But an actor/musician production? No thanks. The score is way too lush to be reduced to some bloke on a kazoo.

The show contains some wonderful music and it's a very long time since I saw it (1996, in fact, in a production at the Lamb's Players Theatre in Coronado, California), but with very rare exceptions actor-musician productions are something I prefer to avoid. It's a regrettable trend, and I've seen very, very few that didn't seriously short-change the music.

However I looked at the train times and it is 1hr 20min from London Paddington to Kemble, plus at least 30 minute bus ride.
So this would be a day trip to see 1 show, where I like to maximise and see 2 shows on a trip, to make it worth my while, with this theatre this seems impossible, at least by public transport.
If I drove, which I am reluctant to do I could see this with something at the Watermill, Newbury. Anyone know any other theatre nearby?

Good luck with that! Even with a car Cirencester and Newbury arent exactly vlose. Everyman Cheltenham or BOV might be better bet.
