The two stalls seats behind the conductor for Les Miserables (A15 and A16) are priced around £25 less than the remainder of the front stalls and are excellent value.
I'm fairly sure the conductor is actually placed slightly lower than in the previous configuration and the viewing restriction is minimal.
The earliest I could re-book those seats was May - just £55 each on a weekday evening- and they have been sold already for around 75% of available performances. Highly recommended

Are there any differences at all, design and direction wise between this and the current tour? Or is it 100% identical? Assuming latter, but thought would ask....

The cast board on the current international tour is great. Has information on the full cast and ensemble, plus stage managers and crew for that performance. I’m sure there would be space for it somewhere in the Sondheim foyer.

What was the situation at the queens? I recall having to seek out an A4 sheet of paper near the box office to check. Did they have a proper board?
I liked the one at the Gielgud, not a fan of the tv screens.

Queens had a board just inside the doors that displayed the company members but not roles, so you would have to know the cast already to work out who was off. And then yes, an A4 piece of paper next to the box office (I think at some point they also put them up elsewhere in the theatre but I only ever saw the box office one)

For the final Queens cast they took out the big window board and replaced it with the one the tour had before its cast change - a red and blue board with slates in it for each role. Also, they had understudy notices in the bars and next to the merch desk in the foyer.

It was interesting listening to the all star concert. Really just listening for Miss Ball - who I was very impressed with. I also thought Hope Fletcher's voice was surprisingly lovely.
I still can't with the Thernardiers being reduced to panto villians/comic relief. It's so lowest common denominator. In the first few years of the show this couple were darkly comic in the vein of Sweeney and Lovett, not the broad comedy the roles have been directed as for years now
(I assume this is a Mackintosh decision?)

The Thernardiers are quite panto but it's a respite form everything else going on in the show. Master of the House is the first moment where the audience can sort of breathe easy. I don't mind the broad direction and it definitely worked for me in the concert version.

It must be wonderful to be one of the singers on the original cast CD some great voices on there.
Probably very remunerative of course for all of them , but more than that... they are kind of imortalized in what will always be a classic performance of one of the greatest
musicals of the 20th cent .
I ve listened to the songs so many times.... I should really go to google and
find out more about the performers !

Probably very remunerative of course for all of them I imagine this will be merged with one of the other Les Mis threads, but First Night Records tried to stop royalties to the original cast in 2012. As the template Equity signed with the record company at the time was from the '60s, and agreed to royalties for just 25 years. www.theguardian.com/stage/2012/jan/16/les-miserables-cast-royaltiesFrom memory, in the end it was sorted and royalties continue.

I sometimes have a feeling that Andrew Lloyd Webber, despite all his glittering success in musicals perhaps envies the success of Les Mis...... which in many ways has risen above all of his achievements.

It is a truly great recording with a definitive cast. You can picture their performances just by listening to the album.
I don't think the royalties they get are huge. I remember when the dispute in 2012 was raging, Frances Ruffelle said it was really only a few hundred pounds each annually but for cast members who were ill or retired it could be a winter fuel allowance. I'm so glad they still get the royalties - thirty three years on this album still gives great pleasure.

Was at Luke McCall's debut yesterday as alt Valjean and enjoyed his performance so much I had to come back and change my rating in the poll! His Valjean really is a highlight, have been following him since the 2015/16 Queen's cast, such an excellent actor and lovely person to boot. The rest of the cast also seem to have settled quite well since the first preview, I expect everyone will be excellent on opening night. Ian Hughes is a fantastic Thenardier, if you can do catch him before he leaves to re-join the tour in Zurich!
