Sad I couldn't have caught this but my god it's sadder that it's going.
The first show I really feel head over heels in love with after seeing it. Listening to recordings non-stop, watching videos, and thinking about the revolve. I cried like a baby both times watching it- and was lucky enough to go twice with each of my grandfathers.
2 things blew me away the first time I saw this. The revolve and when the streets spun and formed the barricade at the top of act 2. I'm yet to see the new production, but highly doubt these moments will induce goosebumps.
It's a pity this production is going, whilst I love shows being refreshed- this definitely did (cast age!)- some things should be preserved!

They are not letting the cast do a muck up for the matinee 😢 Some final matinees are very self indulgent, go too far and disrespectful to a paying audience, and led mis really isn't that kind of show. Master of the House, yes, any where else? no thanks. They have done it every year I have been so |

Saw it last night to say "goodbye" to the original production - and found that it has already left. First time I've ever seen Miz (film included) and not come even close to tears at the end. A few decent performances - Thernadier, Gavroche, Marius, Eponine, Cosette - but last time I checked, the show was a "pop opera" that was SUNG through. Why they think speaking some of it heightens the emotion I don't know, and as others on here said, the speed of the thing. They got "On My Own" down to about 1 minute 30. And they don't keep still - wandering about and emoting all over the stage instead of staying put and thinking about it. On the plus side, I now don't mind the old show is going, as it appears to have died many moons ago and doesn't deserve this current humiliation. Saw this last weekend and sadly I have to agree with the monkey. It ALWAYS makes me cry, but the show I saw was almost soleless. Speeding up those lovely melodies and shortening the death scenes robs it of all the emotion, even the turning of the barricades, that has always tipped me over the edge before, left me cold. For me, it’s never been the same since they cut about 15 mins out back in early 2000’s but this last viewing confirms it’s best left in my memories. |

Going tonight, can't believe that tickets were so readily available for tonight's show when it was announced that it would be closing a couple of months ago.
I'm wondering what sort of reaction CM will return at the end.

As I say, the only good that comes of a new production is a new lease of life. Some tight and fresh direction hopefully. And a cast that is the right age. Over the last few years it turned into graduate fest- lead roles included!

Looking at the seat map for after the new production opens, many of the rows in the stalls have the two outermost seats on both sides off-sale. Are they changing the number of seats in each row when they do the refurb? Or is this ‘insurance’ for unknown eventualities arising when they refurbish?

Whos to say the new version will be soulless as the current one? I’m guessing they’ll get a great cast together when the show opens to satisfy the fans, and then they’ll go back to the soulless show with graduates giving okay performances
There’s nothing stopping CM doing that. Business as usual. Whatever works for him
I remember reading the comments on Broadway world when the new version opened there. Very shouty was mentioned a number of times

On reflection,decided not to make the trip today as I may have had an adverse reaction to a possible CM speech...also there is nothing to celebrate at a wake imo...I will keep my memories intact from years past.

^...about as disrespectful as trashing the show for the ‘new’ version..but I do agree that the man should be allowed to explain himself..hope he doesn’t bang on about the world’s longest running blah blah blah flannel flannel...

i so agree with the people saying that the cast overall is too young. that is not to say that the graduates are not talented.
The Scott Garnham, Fra Fee era for me was the cast that had the ideal age demographic.

Oh, don't mind me, geeky101 , I may just be grumpy because I was seeing ghosts of how it all was. You will probably love it. I did! Wasn't too bothered by the conducted speed other than the odd occasion when I thought things could have settled a bit better. Dean Chisnall and Bradley Jaden were excellent - both have wonderful presence, belt and tone; indeed all the principals were pretty strong for me. The only performance I didn't get much from was Samuel Edwards as Enjolras who seemed pretty one-paced and uninspiring given the nature of his role. Stars got probably the biggest ovation of the night. Elena Skye's On My Own was also fantastic. Charlotte Kennedy is also the best Cosette they've had in years. Will be interesting if many of this cast are still around, ensemble or otherwise, come December-time when the "new" production opens. |

So Les Mis, which opened at the Barbican in October 1985, finally closes tonight. That's a great run.
A "new production" opens later this year. I wonder if the new show will match the number of performances achieved by the classic original?

^ I think the point is that the original is closing tonight...the new version is firstly,a new production of LM and not the original and secondly, not proceeding directly on from this version on Monday and so which ever way you look at it the so-called cherished record run ends tonight...the concert is a concert and therefore doesn’t count imo....when the new production commences it will be day one and counting...
