Great news for Layton that he’s getting to tour the US. Will be interesting to see how they change this to make it work.
I wonder what this means for the UK? In terms of both London and the tour plans.

Can anyone tell me the page number that has the picture of TallPaul's shirt on so I can look out for him when I see the film?

I've made sure all copies have been destroyed, anita. Being an international man of mystery, I have to guard my true identity very carefully. 🙂

Talking of accents, why cast posh Brit Richard E Grant as a Northern drag queen when he can't do the accent? I've always been bewildered as to why the role of Hugo has always been so monumentally miscast on stage and now on screen. It surely can't be that difficult to cast a middle-aged actor who can convincingly play a) gay and b) Northern?! From Phil Nicol to Shane Ritchie to Bill Ward to Bianca del Rio to Rufus Hound to Lee Ross, we're lucky if they can portray just one of those things, and most can do neither!

I guess it's because none of those names you mentioned, apart from Bianca who played it as American, would be able to draw people in to watch it. Shane Ritchie might be a name to alot of people, but i wouldnt go and see something just because he was in it.

Well they certainly don't talk with Sheffield accents in the Japanese production. As an international man of mystery, why didn't I know about this? I think it's running now...or it could have been postponed. horipro-stage.jp/stage/jamiemusicaljp2021/

None - apart from Bianca - are going to put bums on seats, so if that's the case, why not cast someone who's right for the part? I can't believe there are no middle aged actors out there who can't convincingly play a Northern drag queen. I simply don't get why they keep returning to Phil Nicol either. I've seen him three times now and each time the show dipped noticeably whenever it got to any scenes involving him.

BTW - It's not a North American tour - it's just, at the moment, a five-week run in Los Angeles. The dates fit into the break in the UK tour - so Layton and Roy/Bianca will do Southampton until 8 Jan - then off to LA 16 Jan-20 Feb. Layton heads back to rejoin the tour when it starts up again in Nottingham on 23 February.

A week isn’t much time to rehearse, will the LA cast use their cover Jamie & Locos or is the entire UK tour cast flying over?

Well I was at the film premiere last night & it's terrific. 5 stars from me. Before the film started we got a live performance of the title song from The Feeling. We all had bags containing water & popcorn & some of us [ME] were given envelopes containing Amazon freebies. I won't go into details as I don't want to spoil anyones enjoyment but there are a few changes - things omitted & added. However it all works. There isn't a weak member of the cast. And of course the real Jamie & his mum were there. As for TallPauls appearance I'm afraid you couldn't distinguish individuals in the crowd & at that moment they showered us all with a storm of glittery confetti making it hard to see anything. I should add the film cast CD is great too.

Has anyone heard of any of the national cinema chains showing this? I’ve found it at Curzon in London but even if I could justify the cost of the train I don’t have the time to get there and back.

Curzon usually has an exclusivity with Netflix for cinema releases so they are awards contenders (its what happened with The Prom, Ma Rainey's Black Bottom etc)

Upside to running a cinema, I’ll be linking my laptop up after we close one night and watching Jamie on the big screen where it belongs.

Let me bring this back to the London show briefly, as this is now in its closing fortnight.
Another great show last night (seen from the prime front centre of the Stalls).
I had wondered how so many cast are advertised as performing in London and on the tour at the same time.
The cast screen in the venue was right for a change.
We had: Leon Craig as Sandra Bollock (returned to the role with a few new visual jokes) Marvyn Charles as Mickey (back perhaps for the closing stretch?) Joe Wolstenholme as Cy (I think the first time I've ever seen him on as a swing, although since Adam Taylor is on the tour it wasn't a surprise - I see they even had Jordan Laviniere returning to play Jamie a couple of weeks ago when Noah was off)
For some reason, the volume on Noah's microphone was very low in the second half.
Hiba Elchikhe lost her way a bit in Pritti's final big speech, but she pulled it back so most people wouldn't have noticed.
Very full as always and a really receptive crowd last night. Will be a sad day when this closes.

My local art house cinema (Broadway in Nottingham) is showing it. Maybe it hasn't been picked up by the larger chains?
