I saw it in Sheffield and really enjoyed it some great humour ... good story based on the bbc3 doc loved the neighbours one liners Mina anwar was hilarious ... end of act one needs bit of work .... it was fantastic seeing a new musical for a change and home grown ... and some beautiful modern contemporary songs too ... 30 years ago I was Jamie going through the same things ... really connected with it he's my boy was just so moving like looking in a mirror .... yep it wasn't perfect but what is ? Everyone's a critic sometimes it's nice to sit back and just enjoy .... I only read 4-5 star reviews ...
put it this way there is at least 5 musicals touring at the moment only a 1/4 as good as this .... it deserves a chance ... go Jamie

Anyone have any advice on how you can get Row A stall seats for this? If you go the Nimax site you can't select your own seats and it just keeps giving me seats in Row X  It also appears to be bookable until the end of April so they're confident of a long run. |

Parsley, i'm really glad i don't see the world through your eyes it must be such a dark cold joyless place.

As far as I can tell, the only way to get specific seats at a Nimax theatre is to pick up a phone or go to the box office. The website is fairly unmanipulable and their refusal to let us see the whole seating plan at the point of booking is a real dampener on getting what you actually want.

Took your advice and phoned them. Row A are going to be day seats. Only other £20 seats are row X in the stalls and back row of the circle so I think I'll give this a miss at the moment and try when the Get Into London Theatre promo starts. |

Some might argue that the world itself being cold and joyless is why we need such things to cheer us up.
Anyway an genuine original British musical in the West End? I'm thrilled! Once I work out logistics I shall be booking!

Of course there are horrible things that happen but that doesn't make the world dark and cold and joyless. Indeed, it's at times like that when you find that there's light and warmth and joy too. Look at the way the police told everyone to run at London Bridge and then ran into danger themselves. The taxi driver who drove around telling people to run away. The off-duty policeman who risked his life to rugby tackle one of the attackers. Yes, even the manager of *gasp* McDonalds who closed their restaurant on Sunday and distributed all their food and drink to the emergency services. Look at the way the fire fighters tackled that horrendous fire in Kensington. The volunteers who rushed to assist in any way they could. The community pulling together. Yes, even *gasp* Prince William (rich as he may be and living in a palace) visiting the volunteer centre with the Queen and reaching out to hug that poor woman whose husband was still missing. Look at the way the staff at the arena at the Ariana Grande concert in Manchester rushed to help the injured when they probably didn't know what was happening either. Ariana Grande arranging the charity concert. The people who offered their spare beds to people who couldn't get home. Yes, even *gasp* the Queen visiting the injured in hospital. Look at the way the community rushed to tackle the attacker on the mosque in Finsbury Park. The imam who stepped in to protect the suspect from the angry crowd. The non-muslims who have come out to support their muslim friends and neighbours. There's such joy and light and warmth in the world every single day, whether there is a tragedy like recent events or just in everyday life. Someone who gives some spare change to a beggar. Someone who stops and asks someone who looks upset "are you ok?". Someone who surprises a sad friend with some chocolate. People doing something nice for someone else without fuss or recognition. It's there if only one would look. |

And it's certainly an uplifting show. Stop being such a miserable Debbie Downer, that's the last thing we need. And if this is "unwanted' what exactly DO you want to see in the WE other than stuff that you're seeking to make a personal profit on? |

I loved this in Sheffield and for one am glad it is coming to brighten up the West End. Theatre is about escapism and if it helps to take your mind off the horrors of the world for a few hours what's wrong with that. It is certainly not unwanted! Already booked for the 1st show.

The press gave it great reviews, pretty much 4 and 5 stars and the majority of people leaving feedback in this thread have been hugely positive about it. The appeal, judging by the audiences in Sheffield, is not limited to the gay crowd as it's actually a story about family.
That's not to say everyobe will love it of course and I've given up trying to work out what @parsley does actually like but I thought as a community we were generally in favour of new material finding its way to the WE? So describing a show which has a great basis for success as "unwanted" and speculating over its failure without actually seeing it baffles me somewhat.
Could it be that it originates from "the regions" and therefore can't be any good? Are we really still doing that?
