I mean 'be persuaded' in the sense of 'internalise a perceived orthodoxy', not being railroaded by a particular person.

You know how when it became legal to be gay a whole bunch more people didn’t just choose it, they were just able to be open about it right...well similar thing with Trans people who slowly are able to be more open about it, and I don’t think they’re out there recruiting...(also like being gay you can’t catch it, and not from Shane Ritchie in Drag)

i;d rather see Beth Leavel as Ray Let's not whitewash Ray, shall we? This character was written for a South Asian woman unless due to special and circumstances and practicality, the character is played by a white understudy. There are far and few roles as this for women of color - and this is what practically makes this show so special and worth celebrating.

I feel a person of any colour can play that character. Calling it white washing sounds a bit harsh.

I feel a person of any colour can play that character. Calling it white washing sounds a bit harsh. I disagree, I’m afraid. The character does make culturally specific references so dialogue would need to be rewritten, which seems completely unnecessary when they can continue casting the part to fit how it has been written.

I know there is one or two uses of cultural references from that character, but if Melissa Jacques can play the role with no issue, I don't see why nobody can in truth. But I agree, it would be nice to see it stay as an Asian woman.

I was in no way trying to diminish the fact that Ray is South Asian. I was merely saying Beth’s comedy and humor lends itself to the role.

I absolutely love that, in all the craziness going on in her life at the moment, Glenn Close still took the time to go and see the show last night. Such a fabulous lady!

First part of this weeks What’s The Tee is all about Visage’s stint in Jamie. www.rupaulpodcast.com/episodes/She’s got first dibs on the Broadway run but she’ll only do it for up to three months. Yes, this is the woman whose been going on and on about wanting to get into MT for years and after one show is moaning about the length of the run. ”it’s fine when I’m on tour because I can do what I want” Yes Michelle, that’s why going on tour with a drag show isn’t called acting.

Tickets are only on sale through Sept 28 which is prob why he’s only contracted until then? I’m sure his agent wants to make sure he likes it before negotiating an extension, should a new block of tix go on sale...

What would you say is the minimum age for this? Can’t seem to find any guidance age wise.
Young has seen Bat and Waitress for comparison.

Young Dream is almost 11 and quite mature- they’ve put this on their list of musicals they’d like to see so I’m just trying to gauge if it’s be appropriate or not.

I don't think an 11 year old would relate to this at all. I don't think they'd be too offended (the swearing etc is relatively mild), it just wouldn't mean anything to them.

It might not mean anything to them, but it could start an open minded discussion, or even educate on diversity and acceptance. Bullying happens at all ages, so some of themes might be familiar. I'd say take them. it's a fun show.

Hello, I hope you don’t mind me disagreeing, been lurking for a while and this is my first post. My 11 and 13 year olds have been to see Jamie twice (the first time we saw Luke Bayer and we wanted to go back to see John Macrea) and absolutely adore it. We first saw it at the cinema and we then bought tickets for Christmas. If you don’t mind a bit of swearing and innuendo I think it has great messages for young people about acceptance, bullying etc. And they listen to the soundtrack constantly (although they have been trained to miss out the swear words when they sing!) I do recall though that the website said children under the age of 10? - would need to check - wouldn’t be admitted. Both times we went there were a few other children around.
