It’s a common myth that the producer doesn’t pay rent if they own the theatre. The rent pays for staff and the upkeep of the theatre so Nica has to give Nimax along with the other producers of Jamie the rent as part of the running costs.

I forgot to say that I’m fairly certain that I saw Matthew Rix at last nights performance. He’s recently finished playing Edna in the Hairspray tour and I wondered whether he might be joining the cast of Jamie in the future?

It's the first British musical since Matilda that has really been a hit. And as of now, they are using stars where necessary but they have chosen people who actually have talent (unlike the stunt casting in Chicago). Does Shane Ritchie have it in him? May be wrong, but I think he started as a performer in clubs etc before he did Grease and moved into television. Unless he has lost that skill I see no reason why he wouldn’t be decent enough. Wasn’t he famously a Butlins Red Coat?

That's a pleasant surprise! That day I'll be in Ireland though. But that's ok cause I own certain video... so I can watch it whenever I want. But don't tell anyone. Had a look and isn't playing where I live anyway.

Visited last night to see Luke Bayer as Jamie for the last time before cast change. Good second chance ticket from TodayTix in the Stalls. The House Full signs were up outside. It was a loud audience, with laughs/applause in unusual places, but generally well behaved (apart from one guy in premium Stalls who fairly obviously didn't want to be there).
Luke is still by far the better Jamie for me (John comes across as rather too masculine in comparison and I've really been sensing he's a bit bored with playing the role).
The full cast were on for the first half, with no swings. For some reason, Ryan Hughes didn't return after the interval and Marvyn Charles did the rest of the show, although it wasn't announced.
My first time seeing Michelle Visage. I know people like her, but her acting and singing ability is 50 times worse than Lulu. But she's not on stage for long.
It will be a shame to say goodbye to Luke and also Lucie Shorthouse, who always nails her performance as Pritti. I'll be interested to see which of the guys ends up as cover Jamie. Possibly Jordan Laviniere who I saw on stage for the first time since he's joined. If I remember, he was understudy Angel with Layton on the Rent tour and comes across as suitably camp.

I'm looking at booking tickets to see this, and I haven't been to the theatre before. I know there's the £20 front row lottery, but if we fail at that, looking at Theatremonkey's kind seating chart it looks like there aren't many great value for money tickets available. Does anyone who knows the theatre well recommend any seats to sit in (hopefully not the top end of the price band!) or any to definitely avoid? My bf is 5ft 9, and I've noted comments about restricted leg room.
Thanks!

Each time I've been, they've offered me 25£ seats in the stalls wherever there are seats left. It's not a huge theatre - I'm short and my sight lines have been fine in all the seats I've been.

It does also seem to have stalls tickets discounted at TKTS every day too, if you want to try that route.

Did you really say John is too masculine in the role? I think John is Jamie where Luke "plays" Jamie. They both play the role differently, but vocally, John I think wins out. And John's comedic timing and overall presence wins me over everytime

There are 4 day seats two at each end of the front row but these are definitely not great seats as the stage is very high. After these 4 seats are gone I've been offered other seats in the stalls for £25 which are great. However I have no idea how many they offer to people in the queue and should imagine it depends on how full the theatre is. You can also check out Theatremonkey's website for day seat info for the show which will give you some indication of what time people start queuing etc.

Thanks, we need to go on a Saturday so I'm imagining the day seats/tkts demand will be high, but I'll see what we can get! All of the relatively cheap tickets are obviously in the circles which Theatremonkey suggested skipping!

All of the relatively cheap tickets are obviously in the circles which Theatremonkey suggested skipping! I would check available seats if you're going this Saturday as according to the Nimax website the afternoon show is sold out and there is only one ticket available for the evening performance. If this is correct it only leaves the front row, 4 day seats and the rest lottery. Going to be quite hard to get one of these tickets

I’ve seen Hayley in a couple of musicals and she’s very good. Proper northern actress. Good. I’ve taken a huge dislike to Michelle Visage. Glad she’s leaving.
"Northern actress" - music to my ears, LOL!
And why have you gone off La Visage? x

I imagine it will be really tough to get a ticket for cast change day now, bar lottery and dayseats.

I definitely didn't love it first time I saw it. I thought it was good, but overrated af. Then watched the filmed performance and started listening to the LCR, and started to appreciate it more and more. Would I pay to see it again? Probably.
I agree that it's overrated AF!!!
I totally commend what it stands for and that it is British musical. And I'll support it just on that basis.
But as a piece of theatre, it is second rate and has an amateurish vibe to it.

Fair enough. I've found myself that daring to fly in the face of opinion on people who are beloved by some is putting one in the market for a fight!!

Somehow managed to win the lottery for this today so saw the matinee this afternoon. First time seeing it since very early London days and it’s a vast improvement, much tighter and this current cohort seem to be giving stronger performances than the originals (although it’s a lot of the same people). John is fabulous and I think it’ll be a shame to see him go. Someone on twitter said he’d make a great Evan Hansen and I agree, he’s got that real charm and presence for it. Rebecca is equally as good as Josie was, maybe she’s not quite such a natural vocalist but she more than makes up for it with her acting. The real delight of the show for me was Shobna as Ray, I loved Mina so much and didn’t like the idea of someone else doing her role but she totally nailed it, very funny, very natural comedic timing and also could hit you right in the feels when necessary too. Also slightly in love with her because when I tweeted her saying she was great she wrote a very lovely tweet in response and then followed me back on Twitter Michelle was much better than I was expecting and clearly the person most of the audience was there to see. She had really great presence but by god was her accent wobbly. She veered from American into Australian into Polish but let’s be honest - if you’re there to see the great Visage, it’s not for her Sheffield dialect

Heading back to see the show again this week, it will be the worst seat I've sat in for it but I wanted to see John once more before cast change and it'll be good to see Michelle and make my own mind up about her given the mixed reviews I've heard. Wishing I'd bought myself a ticket for cast change now but oh well I'll have to make do with a midweek show instead.
