I think it would work very well on tour and possibly at one of the smaller off-west end theatres.

I do however disagree with the language issue. As posted here before, Billy Elliot has been done in a regional accent that, in my opinion, is far stronger than that of the Sheffield accent. Jokes wise, I couldn't really count more than 5-10 references that were specific to Sheffield and that would need to be changed

Isn't it a bit subversive for schools though? Much of the story is about how school tries to push kids into traditional careers, take a job at any cost and be grateful for it even if it's dead end working in an abattoir or something. The kids openly ridicule that, along with the teacher whose pushing it. The "be yourself" message is aspirational but doesn't necessarily fit in with the school agenda?

Sorry, I meant whether the swearing would be too much for school productions , rather than the regional accent. I assumed Burly's Billy Elliot point was also about swearing, not Geordie-ness.
Also, Burly, your point about subversion is a really interesting one!

Oh right haha sorry.  I know Billy Elliot has a schools version, which I assume has a script more suitable for school age children.  I do, however feel this kind of production would be unsuitable for younger children and would be more suited to an age group around sixth form age perhaps

Thus making it perfect for schools to receive it as a production, or to put it on themselves.

I doubt most schools are as reductive as the show portrays its own to be. Although we under a Tory gov so goodness knows what they're being told they can and cant't be in there, the poor blighters.

I would imagine MOST schools would embrace a show with the message of be yourself though. I could be wrong.

I didn't realize there's a concept album now. Was this discussed in previous pages? Listening to it now..does anyone know how it differs from the stage production and how "concept" recording vs cast recording?

Well, I don't recall seeing Sophie Ellis Bextor or Betty Boo on stage at the crucible! 😆

Seriously though I think it's a bit of a mixture. Some of the tracks are sung by the cast, others not. And yes it was discussed a few pages back when it was released.

Now damn, if she had been, I would've definitely been there! Hers was the first album I ever bought. Woolworths on holiday in Rhyl. Suffice to say, I've never been back.
