John is out on 11 October, per the official website. I guess Luke is doing 3 shows this week...

Her degree is in musical theatre and from what I've seen has the vocal chops to sing the songs. She'll certainly give the box office a boost, will do lots of press and publicity - and from her twitter feed it's clear that she's taking the preparation very seriously.
As for the accent....

I'm not surprised she is taking it seriously, Michelle has made no secret she is a huge theatre fan and she is very professional based on interviews. She knows what she has to do and willost definitely work hard to make it the best she can make it I'm sure

Michelle is a judge on Ireland's Got Talent and she is in her element with any of the Musical Theatre acts. She is quite passionate about MT so I imagine she is taking this very seriously.
Funny enough Denise Van Outen is also a judge on Ireland Got Talent and they both will be in the west end at the same time.

She said she’s doing generic northern because she can’t do Sheffield specifically which is fair enough. Lots of British actors can’t find the nuance between different types of northern accent *cough*The Girls*cough* so I wouldn’t expect an American one to manage it.
I think the idea that they might have allowed her to play it as an American is just preposterous. It’s a show about Sheffield with local characters. Changing it to accommodate a specific actors limitations would have been a total sell out and the absolute worst kind of stunt casting.

I always thought this character was not that believable to begin with. She's too glam for a high school teacher who casually wears Jimmy Choo shoes during the workday. Whatever, I just went on with it and I shall go on with it and welcome Michelle to the show.

It's lovely to see Michelle getting on so well and invoked with the Company, she is tweeting with Luke at the moment and it's really cute. I'm assuming Luke is the Jamie she is rehearsing with?

I always thought they were knock-off Jimmy Choos, though I don't know if we're meant to think Miss Hedges assumed the kids wouldn't realise, or if she herself doesn't realise they're not the real deal. I think the former?

I hope Michelle keeps Tamsin's little arm dance in the curtian call though, iconic!

There's a line (after Miss Hedge tells Jamie he cannot go to prom in a dress), where he goes "look at Miss Hedge in her knock-off Jimmy Choos, she's just jealous" (as per the text book, which I have). So they might be.
That said, I think it wouldn't be impossible for a teacher to save up for something like this. A friend's teenage daughter here saved for ages for a designer hand bag, because... well, it meant a lot to her for some reason. Others spend an unholy sum on trendy basketball sneakers, the latest smartphone or... theatre tickets. So while it seems weird for a teacher to be fixated on glamourous shoes (especially in school, where she'd spent a lot of time standing up), I'd just put it down as a quirk or some deep-seated longing for a more glamourous lifestyle, but yea, it's a slightly over the top portrayal of a teacher.

Doesn't anyone think Visage is a massive stunt cast mistake? Can she sing, can she actually do a Sheffield accent convincingly or is she playing it as an American? It's definitely stunt casting, but I think it's clever stunt casting, given that she is associates with drag queens everywhere. Miss Hedge isn't much of a singing role, she raps and talks/sings 'Work of Art' I think she'll be a big draw for alot of people. Yes she can sing. She was part of Seduction a few years ago!

Teachers buy/save up for things they want just like anyone else!
I expect a lot are bothered about their appearance and what their pupils say about them.
And you can interpret the "Jimmy Choos" line in many ways. I'd always interpreted it as if they were real, but the kids were saying otherwise as they were jealous.

Luke is sick tonight so John is doing the scheduled Alternate show. I'm guessing because of rehearsals of Michelle, Jordan hasn't had enough rehearsal yet to go on for Jamie!

Wishing the best of luck to Michelle on her West End debut tonight! Sounds weird saying that on a Thursday! Anyone heading over to her opening night tonight?

I was there last night, she went down a storm! Singing was great, the accent drifted a bit, but hopefully that will settle down. I also got to meet the real Jamie Campbell and his mum in the bar beforehand, chatted to Margaret for ages, she is absolutely lovely.

Her accent was certainly all over the shop - save for her "Jamie". She was a sweetheart at the stage door and was giving everyone hugs without being asked to do so. (Also, I imagine there were a few things to settle after her first night so it took a while for her and John to come out. At one point, Jonathan Bailey was just across the road - several feet away - and it took all my resolve to not throw myself at him.)

Heard audio of Michelle's first night, she's sounds great with the singing and has a better accent than some of the cast so I'm on board with her. 😂😂

I saw it yesterday and I really did enjoy it.
Michelle was an interesting one, there were sometimes when she had the accent pretty much sorted, other times she was changing between accents quicker than Michael Jibson's quick change when he did Our House.
The disappointing thing is that it led her to stumble through a fair number of lines. It'll be interesting to see if she improves as her run continues and if they extend her contact.

Michelle is box office gold. The show was already doing well on its own, but with her casting it will push it into at least 90% sold every performance, if not higher. If she wants to stay, they'll keep her around. But I suspect, with RuPaul filming commitments, she won't be able to stay much longer if she does extend.
