No word on the cast recording? Still on it's way I believe. The post from earlier this month was the release of the concept album on Amazon unfortunately

Well I saw the matinee and thoroughly enjoyed it! All the positive word of mouth lives up to it, its great to see a new musical, especially one with its original cast! Interesting that there weren't many songs (or it didnt feel like it) and the book scenes were longer, but i liked that. the show flowed well and the performances from everyone were wonderful! If it wasnt up this year I think this would have swept up the awards ala Matilda. Original British Musical thats well rounded? Catnip for Oliviers! I hope it manages to grab a few, I do think John deserves leading actor for sure. Must make an effort to go back to this one. Saw it in December and bar one total bore of a scene and one that made me really uncomfortable, I really enjoyed it! It is probably the best New Musical I saw last year. Which scene if you dont mind me asking? Just curious.

Which scene if you dont mind me asking? Just curious. The scene in the drag queen shop is the bore, and... {Spoiler - click to view} ... the scene where Jamie kisses Dean against his will. I get that some people see it as a confidence/standing up to a bully thing, but it just made me feel uncomfortable and I felt it a tad innapropriate for a sotuation that could of been handled differntly. But thats just me, I get that for most it works.

Sexual assault is about power dynamics. Jamie didn't have the physical upper hand over Dean, so it read to me as a (pre-emptively) defensive manoeuvre. Were Dean to initiate, or Jamie be more of a threatening presence, then it would of course have been entirely different.

Thats OK, thats your opinions. When I saw it my first instinct was discomfort. Maybe I will feel the same next time, maybe not. Thats fine.

Dean was about to punch Jamie. The one thing that does puzzle me though is why every single post you have made on this thread mentions this and the ‘boring’ drag scene. I mean, you say that scene being repetitive is boring... I didn't say anything about a scene in the show being repetitive from my recollection? I never found either repetitive. And this is why I wanna go back. I saw it earlier in previews so I want to see if these two scenes in particular change my opinion of them as time has passed.

Hamilton will win the Olivier (Though I think Jamie should win!) but hopefully John McCrea will win.
This show is the best of the year and I hope it extends again though Christmas as I want to get relatives multiple pairs for the holiday. And I need the cast recording ASAP!

Saw this for the second time recently after first watching it in Sheffield, and love it even more. Definitely feels tighter, and i think the projection works really well. My only minor issue is that I still don't think they found quite the right actor for Hugo/ Loco.
Interesting discussion about Jamie kissing Dean. I think it was very much a preemptive defensive move, and total acceptable in the circumstances. It reminds me of the quite powerful realisation i had in my mid teens as I was slowly starting to deal with my sexuality, that the reason the straight boys bullied me was because I made them feel uncomfortable and the bullying was a (often successful) attempt to retaliate by making me uncomfortable in return. I was never gonna hit them and never tried to kiss them, but the odd blush inducing blown kiss or flirtatious "i'll see you later" definitely made me feel i wasn't totally powerless.

What a gorgeous afternoon! This show delivers just about everything you could wish for in a musical- a heartwarming story, catchy tunes, a multi-talented cast, laughs, tears and too much more to mention really...
The thing is, once seated, I really didn’t think I was going to enjoy it: I was surrounded by phones (I must be the only person in the world that doesn’t take selfies) and bags and bags of sh*te confectionery (northern?? suvven??) which had the potential to rustle loudly and spoil it.
But this one is impossible to spoil. I was completely drawn in from the minute it started. Along with everyone else it seemed.
Special mention must go to Josie Walker as mum, and John McCrea as Jamie, her son who’s proof that it’s often the case that it’s the unlikeliest one in the crowd who has the biggest balls.
So I was particularly touched by the number of mums out with their sons in the audience, perhaps as it’s Mothers’ Day weekend. And the little chap in front of us, no more than eight years old, who sat there entranced throughout, laughing and clapping and telling his mum with genuine excitement at the interval, “It’s amazing!” made my afternoon.
If you haven’t seen it yet, go. There’s good reason that Everybody’s Talking About Jamie.
PS Thanks, mum x

That song in the trailer is really catchy! I have one slot left for a show on my next trip, a Saturday matinee, and I'm hesitating between this and 42nd Street. I have been unable to find any good deals for Jamie and probably can't dayseat early because of a morning tour.
How is the view for the £35 tickets from the first or second row of the Grand Circle for this please? Is it worth considering? It doesn't look great from the previews on their website.

I sat front row of the Grand Circle on Saturday and the view wasn't great. I had to constantly lean forward and even then you couldn't get a clear view with all the lights in the way. I would go for more expensive seats if I were you.

I would definitely choose Jamie! and it is worth asking for dayseats even later in the day, or checking TKTS booth

Thanks Stasia. You're right, TKTS is also an option. I don't know why but I keep forgetting about them. Seems like I just need to have some chill and buy the Jamie ticket on the day. 😄 I'm very curious about the show as so many of you have given it great reviews.

My first time seeing this tonight! Quite coincidental that it was Luke Bayer’s debut as Jamie as I booked today, but it was only announced after I booked.
Nothing to compare him too, but he was great and I’d have had no idea it was his first show. Played it very camp and looked to be having a lot of fun.
There were some disappointed people nearby at not seeing the lead (one near me who I believe from the conversation I heard had been before and left at the interval), but that’s to be expected. Not everyone gets excited about understudies. I think this is a show that has its regulars.
I’ve never seen so many people check phones during a performance (they think they’re discreet but forget the phones light up). Again, maybe that’s something about the demographic for the show.
Some good songs and a brilliant cast, particularly Jamie’s mum and neighbour.
I’ll certainly go back again.

I dug out the recording of this yesterday and was reminded what a gem it is. I really do need to make a return trip. On a related note I finally watched 'God's Own Country' which contains unexpected bonus of a brief but erm memorable scene for John McCrea!

Is John on holiday or is he ill? I’m assuming he’s ill given that he was supposed to be on the Olivier Awards livestream on Friday but only Josie Walker appeared
