Hi! I'm going to be in London in a couple of weeks and am definitely going to day seat this. Has anybody been on a Saturday for both parts? I read one report saying day seats are fairly easy to get and not a huge line by 10am, but wanted to ask if anyone's had experience buying day seats for this? Also, where have the seats been generally located? any help or advice would be greatly appreciated! I haven’t seen any reports but am sure you won’t have a problem getting seats. This isn’t close to selling out, unfortunately. It won’t be front row, as those are sold in advance. My best guess is they’ll fill up the gaps in the Stalls and Dress Circle. TodayTix also does rush, which tend to be rear Stalls.

Brilliant, brilliant play!

It was quite empty the day I went unfortunately in spite of being heavily papered. The Balcony was closed and there were lots of empty seats both in Stalls and Dress Circle

It may well sell much better on a Saturday than during the week, so something to bear in mind when going for day seats.

Thanks so much! I'm usually up and out early on my trips so I'll likely get to the box office around 8:30am and be the first or second in line as it usually happens.
There are sales for it on TodayTix sometimes but wanted to see if the day seats would be a better location for the price and it sounds like they are. thanks!

Oh! One more question--
I can go to the box office on a Saturday morning and buy one ticket for part one and one for part 2, correct? Meaning I can buy shows for both parts on the same day?

I think I saw a sign at the theatre that day seats were £15. Does anyone know if this is correct?

Saw this at the YV. Absolutely groundbreaking. Can't wait to see it in town but sad to hear it's not selling.

Yes. You can even buy part 2 for a different day if you wish. Thanks so much! I assumed so but I was planning on going for an experience of seeing both in one day and Saturday is my last day in London so I didn't want to get there and find out I was wrong.

So I think I’m ready The good thing, the queue for the ladies there tends to be short (the queue for the gents is a different issue). Worth bearing in mind as they are two (excellent) long plays. Two intermissions for part 1, but part 2 only has one intermission and a “stay seated” pause.

Vanessa Redgrave off on Saturday when I saw it. The two parts just flew by. Acting all round excellent. Wasn’t as moved as I expected to be - perhaps my expectations were too high - but it was an incredible piece of theatre. The guy who was with Eric ( name escapes me ) reminded me of Darren Criss in Assasination of Gianni Versace.

Vanessa Redgrave seems to be missing lots of performances which is a pity. She really is wonderful in this

She always misses performances, I get she is no spring chicken but I would rather she job shared or simply didn't commit to such long runs. People are booking for her and she knows it.

It's a shame she's missing performances. She already only does half of them (i.e. part 2 only), so I'm not sure there'd be much of a job left to share.

On the one hand, yes. On the other... my cousin saw it a couple of weeks ago, and said afterwards that Redgrave seemed quite unwell, and coughed several times during her scene. Sometimes illnesses that you shake off quite easily when you're younger can be a lot more debilitating if you're older or have long-term health conditions.

Indeed, I am a wreck in my thirties but that is even more reason why Redgrave shouldn't commit to such long runs. I would much rather see her do a limited 4-6 week run somewhere than put her health at risk and damage her reputation as when she is on she is usually good but when she isn't she gains a reputation for being unreliable.

I also saw this on Saturday having seen it over 2 separate evenings back at the YV. Noticed a few little changes including (I think) the placement of the second “interval” in Part 2, but overall the effect is very much the same. Part 1 is ultimately for me the more emotionally affecting but Part 2 has some fantastic and thought provoking stuff in it and I was really pleased to see it all again. I do think the ending of Part 1 is so climactic and emotional that it’s a bit of a shock when Part 2 just picks up and carries on with the story which perhaps accounts for what seems to be a general Part 1 preference.
Regarding Ms. Redgrave and her understudy... having seen the former at the YV I have to admit being rather pleased she was off on Saturday as for me her performance was the weakest thing about the whole show - her lines and accent were very wobbly and she took a lifetime to get through the speech. Her understudy was passable - certainly better at the Southern accent - and at least got through it in a relatively timely manner, but I think they should have found another actress to do West End full time and could have found someone to land that story with the emotional weight it deserves. I understand the casting from a Howard’s End nostalgia point of view but she isn’t up to the job anymore, and then when she misses a show the meta reference to Vanessa Redgrave within the play elicits groans of disappointment from people who did wish to see her. So it seems like a lose, lose...

Word has it that Ms Redgrave will be out it for a while. Let's hope that is not the case.

She was off last night. Staff were saying that she's now been off for a couple of weeks and they don't know when she'll be back.
No announcement made before the performance, but I saw a little note by the box office

There were also notices inside each of the entrance doors to the stalls. I rather liked her comparatively no-nonsense, dryly funny understudy, who couldn't be further from what Redgrave did at the YV if she tried. I wonder if V's absence accounted for the notable number of empty seats last night in the stalls -- a shame if so, since the production is in superlative shape and Soller and Burnap both are beyond praise, as are Hilton and Hickey.
