At the Young Vic the front row was very slightly restricted at times as part of the stage is raised in some scenes, but you didn’t miss much really, just needed to look up Ah yes I remember. I did sit on the front row for part 2, but didn't think of it being restricted at all. Hopefully that's the same for the West End run.

I'll be in London for a week in November and very much want to see this. I live in NYC and TodayTix rushes can be...tricky. You have to basically tap the button at the exact time or you're out of luck. Is that true for them in the UK as well?
Also, for this show I'd want to see both parts on the same day and was curious if you bought both rushes at once or if it was separate, making it virtually impossible to buy them both.

Yes, for popular shows it’s the same here, you need to be in there at 10 to get anything. For others (eg King and I at the moment) they release more rush seats later in the day Also you are correct that for this one you have to do the rush separately for each part as far as I can see so would be tricky doing a 2 play day

Did anyone make it to the first preview last night? Hoping to read some reports. Yes, I was at the first preview on Friday evening. Nightmare picking up tickets as the pick up queue was up St Martin's Lane and took ages! As a consequence the play went up at least 15 minutes late around 7.30pm with the cast killing time on stage waiting for house clearance. It finished at 11.00pm! As a consequence I had a huge dash to get my train - some of us don't live in London!! Then a delay on the train and did not get home until 2.00am! Not happy! Sat on the front row (B) for £20 - bargain. Not restricted and you don't miss anything but the stage is high due to the raised stage for much of the play. I enjoyed it - sometimes very funny, sometimes incredibly moving. I didn't see it at the YV. Very well acted by a very attractive cast. However, I thought the play was certainly far too long and would have benefited from being heavily edited. The writing was clearly influenced by other plays - (Angels, Torch Song Trilogy, The Normal Heart) not necessarily a bad thing but I did feel that I had seen a lot of it before, somehow? Being someone who lived through the Aids crisis of the 80's and having lost friends, I found the ending to the part one incredibly moving and a stunning theatrical moment.

Going next week. Sorry to hear about the problems to pick up the tickets. They should really get it sorted to make sure they start on time, it's a very long night as it is.
Looking forward to see the play again. Enjoyed it very much at the Young Vic

Well part one tonight was even more incredible than I remember it at the Young Vic. The final scene especially - not a dry we in the house and instant full standing ovation. Can’t wait for part two tomorrow, and I already know I’m going to need to see this again later in the run.
The front row seats are a bargain - thank you again for the tip off! There’s a bit of looking up, but you don’t miss a thing (though Mr Soller is a bit of a spitter, so take a rain mac)

Part one tonight - wow I did not expect that. Just brilliant. Loved it all, such fantastic writing and performances.
Gotta wait until November for part two sadly as I’m not in London for over a month, but I’m sure it will be well worth the wait.

I missed the memo about row B being the front row, didn't realise that's what I'd booked when tipped off by this thread that they were on sale! The sightlines aren't perfect but they're fine, the shorter amongst us would struggle to see the faces of characters sitting at the rear of the stage but not a great deal of dialogue occurs that way. The larger problem is just that a chunk of action happens with characters standing to the fore of the raised stage, which means a lot of looking up nostrils. I had no bones with that, especially for the price. Just worth mentioning.
Loved part 1 as I did at the YV. I was glad to not have a supernumerary climbing over me this time to get to the stage at the end. I like how they've blacked up the boxes of the Noel Coward really neatly so it's al seamless with the lovely blank stage design. I also noted that they've added a slight rake to the set floor which wasn't at the YV to accommodate for most of the stalls being lower than the stage. And I'm just enamoured once again with Paul Hilton being utterly fabulous, along with the rest of the solid cast.
Looking forward to Vanessa CBE's quiet performance in part 2 now. And the Fire Island scene...

Saw it at the Young Vic and found it amazingly, almost unbearably, powerful. I think it's better than Angels in America -- the characters in The Inheritance seem more real to me. The play has been compared to many plays with gay/AIDS themes, but I feel if there's a connection, it's to Terrence McNally's brilliant Love! Valor! Compassion (which also starred John Benjamin Hickey ).

Slightly disappointed with this play at the Noel Coward. Saw Part 1 on Tuesday and I enjoyed it but not as much as at the Young Vic. I think it's the kind of play which benefits from being staged in a a smaller and more intimate venue.
At the Noel Coward, the second row in the Dress Circle seemed miles away from the action. The actors are now miked but at times there were problems with the sound and some key dialogue was missed.
Most people around me got free tickets and I had the impression that it's not selling well at the moment which is a pity.
Still recommended as it's such great play. Pity it has gone to the wrong venue.

I thought it seemed full Tuesday and Wednesday and enjoyed it as much, if not more so, than at the Young Vic. Totally engrossed from start to finish.
Everything seemed snappier and I guess that's because the timing is sorted. Part 1 has two intervals. Part 2 has an interval and a pause (I think Part 1 would be better with just the pause as well). Still long. If you're male, I suggest not drinking too much, as there are long queues for the gents.
Excellent view from the central front row. This is an intimate play and I can't imagine wanting to be further back. Even at the front, because the stage is higher and the audience is only at one side, it still seems more distant. I wouldn't think of it as a restricted view as I'd rather have that view than be stuck behind a tall person. But yes, the staging is slightly different because of it.
At the front, you also have the benefit of various things landing on you during the show. I got hit by a freshly used cotton bud, a load of chewed tree bark (probably a biscuit) courtesy of Vanessa Redgrave and a pair of freshly removed jeans. I think some of the other audience members took some bits home as souvenirs (the jeans were safely retrieved). I did miss getting soaked with water though, so stayed fairly dry (with the exception of Kyle Soller's spit, but he is forgiven).
Excellent performances all round and lots of emotional moments. I have to single out Samuel H. Levine for the effortless way of slipping between key characters. And I thought Vanessa Redgrave nailed it much more so than the previous time I saw her and looked much steadier on her feet as well.
I don't think the Part One ending had quite the same impact as at the Young Vic, but that could just be due to the audience mix. It is still a play packed with emotional impact (and plenty of humour to balance everything out).
Highly recommended!

I'm going for the all day spectacular tomorrow (I saw it in two separate parts at the Young Vic) and I'm tres excited. I haven't waited this long for an inheritance since my evil grandmother kept hanging on for far longer than we all expected. Probably out of spite.

My problem this week is that the in Dress Circle I felt a bit disconnected, too far away from the action.
Like you I also thought that the ending of Part 1 didn't have the same impact as at the Young Vic mainly because there's no extra step to the stage like at the Young Vic, and the actors had to jump or climb up, some of them very clumsily, to the very high stage.

Dr Tom I think we may have been sat pretty much next to each other on Tuesday and Wednesday, we were in B17-19, the cotton bud landed right by my boyfriends foot! (Were you as happy as I was when the guy behind who was overreacting to everything didn't return for act 3 of part two?) I think the end of part one worked just as well in the larger space, judging from the amount of tissues I got through which was about on par with the amount I used at Young Vic. I did notice especially in part two some changed/added sections of dialogue, for example during the conversation about likening the United States as a body and Trump as HIV and comparing to Game of Thrones (confirmed when I checked my play text when I got home). The added dialogue was amazing though and I could feel the audience wanting to applaud. The wedding crash scene felt a little bit more clumsily done, but I think they made the best of the space they had. Maybe this will become more smooth over time. Vanessa Redgrave was definitely on better form than when I saw her at the Young Vic Will definitely be going back again at least once before the run finishes.

Apart from confirming how emotionally slain I was again by part 2, I was going to say how I felt Vanessa Redgrave’s performance was a lot more confident, her accent a lot more assured this time round. But the board has already confirmed this. I think I saw part 2 a month or so into the YV run and she was still very shakey with her lines and performance, but obviously with some time and rehearsal she’s eased into it. I still find it very impressive that she’ll do any work at all in her eighties, she surely doesn’t need to.
Such a great show anyway. Solidly five stars.

Yes, very happy that guy didn't return. There was a lot of tutting as if he didn't know what he was letting himself in for (which is hard to believe if he'd seen part one, although I wonder if anyone does just attend Part 2 to see Vanessa Redgrave?). I did another front row customer say she was Part 2 first, so I suppose it could be driven by availability. Thanks for pointing out the line changes. I couldn't remember that level of detail but I'm not surprised it's been tidied a bit. And I'd happily go back, but rather spoilt by the seating, so hopefully equally good becomes available!
