I think you need your eyes testing danieljohnson14, those photos are not against a screen...
There's a backlit cyc with set in front of it (see the wire cables holding up the houses and the panels behind the Jackson 5? That's not projection, that's physical pieces of scenery). There are automated LED walls & posts but not in those photos.
Also, just for the record - LED, projection & video generally cost a lot more than physical pieces of scenery.
I saw the open dress with my wife and didn't make it to the second half. My wife stayed (we have an agreement) and enjoyed herself but wouldn't have paid for a ticket. The show isn't for 'regular theatregoers' and it doesn't matter what the critics say, it's going to have a good run. I do miss Memphis though.

Think this one is critic proof, as it appeals to people who wouldn't normally go to the theatre and when they buy tier tickets at a exhubant price, they would be clueless they're being ripped off.
For the record I don't think the original Broadway production did recoup, it couldn't be far off though. Something to do with a big wage bill.

Not forgetting though, it is going back to Broadway, most likely with the tour set, to get even more money this Summer haha!
I must admit though, I do like the design of the logo for this, the whole black and gold design.

They are doing something rather interesting with this tonight, they are live streaming the opening night. Interviewing all the celeb attendee's on the red carpet and such. link
I quite like it and maybe other shows should do it, it creates a bit of buzz and excitement.

So no surprises there that it is getting not so positive reviews.
Also, I kinda guessed lip synching was a given considering the amount of incredible singers they are attempting to portray.

God this was dreadful ! At least in NY it looked reasonably spiffy but the whole production here is so sh*tty-looking and the cast with one or two exceptions wouldn't dignify a bus and truck tour Stateside. But some will surely love it and the woman to my left was bursting with excitement before a single note had been sung. Lucky her.
The Diana Ross is nauseating.

Well it is limited availability for a lot of shows for at least the next month or so according to the website... but then so was Viva Forever.

4 stars from Mark Shenton at The Stage. Very different to the majority of other reviews so far.

Doesn't the Daily Telegraph love anything jukebox from 5 stars for the Commitments or Sunny Afternoon to 4 stars for this.
How can Dominic Cavendish say this is better than Kinky Boots? Words fail me.

Hasn't the show, or at least its opening night, been officially supported by The Telegraph? Their logo was on the front page ad in the Standard yesterday...
No wonder its got 4 stars from them.

Love the 'all expenses spared' staging- staring at an empty stage all night.

I think there's a place for all the shows, it's just sad to see better shows story wise close as these types of shows run and run. At the same time I see how key the tourist market is to the west end

I got a very expensive looking bit of promo material for it in the post yesterday. Four gatefold pages in thick glossy card with loads of photos. Even the envelope was expensive looking. I think it came from Groupline.
