An odd show considering how small the venue it. It least it has a very high roof on the place if they do decide to throw some people up in the air.

Agree. A bit odd. So not impressed with Southwark's musicals next year. Between this and Pippin that is already shady and has been done to death (and this version seems to be a knockoff on the recent Broadway revival)..I guess The Rink is slightly more exciting and gives us an opportunity to see a professional production of a show rarely done.

A month long run throughout August. Director/Choreographer is Ewan Jones. Has done alot of reigonal work but and one who recently directed that West End production of Three Little Pigs at the Palace Theatre in London. Hmmm... southwarkplayhouse.co.uk/show/bring-it-on/ |

This initially excited me, but upon seeing that it's being done by what essentially appears to be a youth group, I'm not so enthusiastic.

^Don't write them off. NYMT's "13" this year was amazingly good, with a similar professional team backing young cast mix. I've booked. After some digging it looks like it was this company that put on 13 last summer! That makes me quite exited for this. |

Unfortunately the preview dates I can do only have sparse tickets left so had to book after that for 10th August. Really looking forward to this.

Having fallen in love with the cast recording, I attended the matinee yesterday & finally saw this on stage - The British Theatre Academy youthful cast did not disappoint bringing high energy & game to this fun fluffy musical.
It’s very loosely based on the film making it different to ‘Legally Blonde’ in being a teen film adaptation into a musical. It’s hardly a groundbreaking story but does have great themes about fitting in and friendship.
Lin’s score is very lyrical & the sound was great, could hear diction & each line in the songs.
The standout here is the choreography- the stage is large and flat so they do all the large ensemble numbers - lots of flips (always a worry on who will not be able to get through the whole run after a bad land so got to admire these young performers).
I also saw ‘Goodnight Mister Tom’ earlier in the week but have to miss ‘Spring Awakening’ as I am away that weekend it runs but they are a great school producing tomorrow’s talent.

Was there yesterday matinee also and and I echo Westendclub thoughts. Great energy on stage and Miranda"s score sounded great.
Highly recommended

Let's not be giving Miranda all the credit. Tom Kitt wrote half the score. Miranda's music stands out, for sure, because he has such a strong style, but he also had the best part of the story to deal with.

There is no way I'm sitting in that theatre during this heatwave. You do have to pick your seats carefully. It's fine if you are at the front and on an aisle. It's when you squeeze into the middle of the back rows it gets really hot, I find. Tll that to the woman who passed out in the front row! 😂😂 |

Details of said children: 5ish and 6. Well trained at small people theatre. Easily occupied by snacks. Of the non-rustling variety obviously. Mercilessly shushed if ever they attempt to talk during a show. Sat through Bananaman at the same venue. Actually liked Bananaman(!)
It's a toss up (cheer pun intended) between using one of my rare chances to use my sister as a babysitter to see this as a couple, or using said babysitting opportunity to see something else and taking the whole family to see Bring it On.....

I haven't seen this production, but I saw it in Australia earlier in the year and it really wasn't a show for people below their teenage years. Nothing really offensive, but the subject matter just wouldn't make any sense. I don't think it was offensive, but there was typical teen movie type sexual references and I think mild swearing. |
