Mmmm... Not fussed at all about Spring Awakening but have a soft spot for Aspects. I hope they can do it a little more justice than the Menier managed a few years back. I can't remember that much about it other than it didn't quite work for me. Let's hope this new production is a success and they look to transfer it down here. Seems to be a busy little place up there!

At least Londoners get plenty of notice with this announcement about what should be heading their way in late 2018/early 2019.

I have only seen the UK tour (of Aspects) in the 2000s with David Essex, Matt Rawle, Shona Lindsay and Poppy Tierney. I enjoyed it at the time.
...but I'd really liked to see it performed again. The cast recording alone is not enough for me to feel truly involved in the story.

I quite like Aspects. Good to singalong to in the car ... but the characters are all awful. Quite difficult to feel for any of them

Ooh I love Aspects! Seen it more than 10 times in various productions.
I'd like to see Spring Awakening again too as I enjoyed the Lyric Hammersmith version.

I've still not made it to the Hope Mill for a show yet, though still hoping to catch Hair and Pippin in London. I only saw Spring Awakening last year when the NYMT did it but I'd be tempted to see it again. I've never seen Aspects so would be interested in that too if I can make two trips to Manchester!

I haven't made it up there, but these 2 announcements I am very tempted.
Both very good choices and ideal musicals to transfer to somewhere like Southwark Playhouse etc or even go on a Uk tour.

Aspects of Love might take on a whole new relevance now with its disquieting story of older men hovering around a teenage girl.

I saw Aspects of Love once. The entire time I was thinking to myself "I have definitely seen better musicals about painters named George".

I’d hazard a guess that this chorus of disapproval for Aspects is based on the Menier production...

Touring production starring David Essex in my case. I seem to recall Poppy Tierney was worth the ticket price on her own.

Sign up to Virgin Train updates and watch out for the seat sales. I got to London for £11.00 each way the other week.

Manchester is a great city. Wish I lived nearer. Was there last week for Jubilee at the Royal Exchange. It always has such a buzz about the place and everyone is so friendly. I am a tad biased being a scouser. Northerners are always more friendly!

Ooh how exciting. And an excuse for a trip to Manchester, which I always enjoy.
My own David Essex 'Aspects' story has gone down in the history of musicals in our family...it involves him trying to get off stage crouched behind a table being carried....in full view of anyone above stalls level.

Yeah when I saw it the theatre was full of 'older' women who whistled and cheered when he came on stage

Cheers Burley, I work for London Underground and pre 1996, so get a Priv ticket, where I can travel on Network Rail for 3/4 off, also being a manager I get 4x48hr of free travel anywhere in the country. However great re at advice for anyone els, that fancies a trip to Manchester.

I might have completely miss understood the story but felt the storyline was a little uncomfortable with David's character and young female character. As I said probably didn't get it.

I would agree - I think the whole storyline of older George and very young Jenny and the song "The first man you remember" might have been intended as innocent, but comes across as rather creepy. Maybe it's our modern cynical minds, I dunno.
Done right, Aspects of Love can be mildly entertaining, but as someone else said, the characters are not really all that likeable. I enjoyed the Menier production and have good memories of a German version in Dresden many years ago. That said, it's one of those shows that could only tempt me back with the right cast.

Mmmmmmm
Saw the original and the Gale Edwards one and my opinion is, I was too young and too much of a novice then to judge a show by production. I remember Kathryn Evans being superb though.
Incidentally the great thing about Aspects it does reveal all types of love, sometimes a bit too dark, but if that didn't happen then you wouldn't have Aspects of Love.

Richard Stilgoe turned down the offer to write the lyrics, because he found the material distasteful too. Oh, and the Gale Edwards production I think was definitive. Didn't like the original, loved that version. Wouldn't it be a coup de theatre if the small Hope Mill Theatre, that seems to be punching above its weight got Sean Connery to play the role of George in Aspects.

Well Roger Moore was supposed to be a coup when he was cast as George in the original production until it all came unstuck...! (Are you suggesting it should be a Bond?!)
