It’s odd there is no Sunday peformances scheduled. I wonder if they’re making the decision to keep them or scrap them? There are also no Monday evenings (except in the preview week). My guess is that they'll wait for a few months, then assess their Sunday box office, then decide whether to schedule either Sunday matinees or Monday evenings for this play. |

I thought one of the USPs of the Bridge Theatre was that they plan to keep Monday evenings clear as a general rule for one-off events. Sure, everything could easily change by next October (maybe they'll be trying to make interval beignets a thing by then) but that's where we currently are.

Fairy nuff. I'll give Nicky x2 the benefit of the doubt before I go all Emmeline Pankhurst on them. Well actually I just want to wear a big hat and wave a placard around demanding more female creatives and more male nudity in the vain hope that they'll give me some free madeleines to shut me up but every little bit of action helps I'm sure. Votes for Women!  God, please not more male nudity - one can barely go to the theatre these days without seeing male appendages flapping in the breeze. Or it could just be me. |

Or it could just be me. Flapping?! In a breeze?!? Blimey!  Mine just... erm... well, never mind. What I really meant was is there any chance you could post details of the production(s) where aforementioned appendages have... flapped? Just read this on BBC news. Good to see a new play being done by this playwright, I will be definitely up for seeing this.
However I must not be the only one disappointed on here by this announcement, as it is a timely reminder of his previous work I haven't seen and would love to see, such as; The Beauty Queen of Leehane, A Skull in Connemara, The Lieutenant of Innishmore and The Pillowman.
Surely something like Southwark Playhouse, Menier Chocolate Factory, Young Vic, Old Vic, Park Theatre, National or Donmar Warehouse can pick these up, if the commercial sector not interested in doing this.

The Young Vic already did The Beauty Queen of Leenane, then brought it back for another go. There have been rumours of a Pillowman revival coming next year, but the rumours have also mentioned Colin Morgan who is due to be in Translations at the NT so I don't know what that means for the Pillowman rumours. There was quite a good production of it in Leicester back when the Curve was fairly new though.

This is my definition of a ‘perfect play’. I loved the way you had to walk through the rain to get to your seats before it started! |

I remember reading/hearing at the time when The Pillowman was on that he’d written this years ago, before his Irish plays. Everyone assumed it was new as it had only just been put on by the NT. Not sure if there was any any foundation to that. It’s certainly different in style from his other stuff, and isn’t one of my favourites either.

Beauty Queen at the Young Vic is/was easily one of the best productions I've seen in a London theatre in the last 10 years, and In Bruges one of my favourite films of the same time period, I can't believe we haven't got to see more revivals of McDonaghs other plays in London theatres. I'm frankly sick of the same old revivals we get time and time again at places like the NT. |

An Irish company called Decadent produced a cracking version of The Pillowman two years ago in Dublin and Belfast.

I love McDonagh's work.
First became aware of him with In Bruges (which has now become one of my Xmas holiday staples). Since then, I've seen a number of his plays, including The Cripple of Inishmaan with Daniel Radcliffe at the Noel Coward, Hangmen at the Royal Court, and the Druid production of Beauty Queen of Leenane. My favorite remains the stellar production of The Lieutenant of Inishmore at the Mark Taper Forum in L.A. starring Chris Pine.
I've been looking for something to schedule my next trip to London around. A Very Very Very Dark Matter just might be it!

Now can you remember if the cat ate the frosties or not at the end?! I saw this at The Other Place in Stratford where it began its run. Cracking piece! I remember being on the front row and everything was very close indeed! The cat did eat the frosties! The RSC sent out letters in advance, but after tickets had been sent out, informing the audience that no actual cats would be harmed for the production! |

I found that too, but I wanted to be on the safe side. As my username may hint I'm a big fan of McDonagh's plays, but apart from the NT broadcast of Hangmen I haven't seen any performed, so I had to get in on this!

Very easy to book tickets and I even went back in to get an additional two next to my original purchase. Bingo! And thank heavens for no booking fees 😄😄😄
I just hope the play is better than Young Marx 😂
