I know it's a bit of a schlep but non-Glitzy West End theatres need love too you know. New 2018 season announced for the Lyric Hammersmith and it's no longer a mystery that Toyah Wilcox, star of 'Calamity Jane' and 'Teletubbies' returns to 'Jubilee'. This time on stage. And without Derek Jarman. Naturally. There's other stuff on too. Go take a look. There might be something you like. Getting Fripp Shape

I love the Lyric but the only things exciting me are Fatherland, maybe 4:48, and I'll give a punt on the weird Macthello mashup.

So much more to my taste than the underwhelming feeling I got from the Old Vic announcement. I will already have seen Fatherland and Jubilee (both at the Royal Exchange) but The Plough and the Stars, the Hofesh Schechter dance show and the Macbeth/Othello collision (collusion?) are automatic buys for me.

Didn't we have The Plough and the Stars at the Nash last year? Or am I thinking of another Irish play?

The Abbey Theatre production that this is has been acclaimed for its non traditional approach (the NT one was very much ‘the way it is always done’).

Yes, Plough and the Stars was on in the Lyttleton last year. So 2 years between the productions but feels like an odd choice. Review of this production here - www.theguardian.com/stage/2016/mar/17/the-plough-and-the-stars-review-abbey-dublin-easter-risingToyah's casting will turn suburbia UP SIDE DOWN!! Saw 4:48 Psychosis on it's previous run - it was excellent. I don't understand the concept of Othellomacbeth - two separate plays? Condensed version of both mashed together? But if the second one, why are there two directors? Edited to add - the press release confirms this is a single production of the two.

A nice mix there. I have a personal aversion to all versions of 4.48 thanks to too many students murdering extracts from it for too long. I hope that one day I will be able to appreciate it again...
I loved Hofesch Schechter when I last saw them...even if their Stage Manager did call me a boy while ranting to our front of house manager....(that's a sh*t claim to fame if ever I heard one)
And good old Toyah, I have to admit, I'm intrigued.

I haven't been to The Lyric since they put on Comedians with Matthew Kelly, Reece Shearsmith, Keith Allen and Mark Benton, and that must be a good 10 or so years ago? They email me once in a blue moon with offers to see the sort of things that I wouldn't go and see if they were free - looking at whats on offer in this new season, I wouldn't mind seeing Fatherland, mainly for the music by Karl Hyde, but I'm not booking anything eight months in advance - I can't see that selling out any time soon.

Yes, Plough and the Stars was on in the Lyttelton last year. So 2 years between the productions but feels like an odd choice. Both productions originated at the same time, on the centenary anniversary of the Easter Rising. I guess that the Lyric Hammersmith has delayed this transfer for as long as possible - any longer and it would have been lost!

This is the warning for Jubilee:
"PLEASE NOTE: AGE GUIDANCE 16+ In the spirit of its punk heritage, the show not only contains music, dance and astonishing performances, but also strong language, nudity and sexually explicit content."
I'm beginning to think that every morning, @ryan searches on Google for theatre AND nudity!!!

I be interested in seeing The Plough and the Stars, but for my money I thought they would've gone with Juno and the Paycock, which hasn't been done in London for 5 years now.

If you be offering to sponsor a new production of Juno and the Paycock, then I'm sure the Lyric Hammersmith be delighted to accept it. Meanwhile, in the real world, they're doing the eminently sensible thing of transferring this Abbey Theatre production, directed by their own artistic director.

All missable for me except possibly Fatherland; I need to check back on the Manchester reviews. As some of us sometimes say, it can be a relief NOT to have to book for yet another slew of productions.

Excited by Jubilee, Travis Alabanza is worth admission alone and Toyah thrown in too!

As some of us sometimes say, it can be a relief NOT to have to book for yet another slew of productions. Parts of it are very good, a lot of it is excruciatingly self-indulgent. Whether you enjoy it will mostly depend on your tolerance for verbatim theatre pieces in which the authors/compilers insert themselves into the narrative.
