As much as I would have loved to see Cate Blanchett, Gillian Anderson makes more sense in the role.

Jeez. We were promised a major star. Gillian Anderson has lived in London for years and has done all manner of theatre and other work. I can see exactly how she will play it too. It’s hardly top drawer exciting casting now is it? What a shame.

I saw this coming a mile away. Glad I finally gave up on this and went ahead and booked my trip to London for the fall.

Gillian Anderson is still a draw and given how great she was in Streetcar, I think she’s a worthy replacement

Yes I also think GA will be excellent and hope to see this. I'm not sure I totally buy the scheduling conflict reason for Cate Blanchett's withdrawal. Where there's a will, there's a way and all that.

Blanchett probably saw Network and thought "nope". And I wouldn't blame her.

I don't think Anderson is bad casting, just not casting I will go out of my way to see. Blanchett would have been a coup purely because she is a star name who doesn't do many theatre engagements in London.

Am I the only one who was curious about Cate Blanchett but actually happier with Gillian Anderson? I've seen both on stage before and while I can admire Cate, I have always found Gillian more electric and arresting a performer.

I mean, I know Cate Blanchett is like, well Cate Blanchett but I don't see Gillian Anderson as second choice casting at all. It's not like she's in London's glitzy West End all the time. Plus she's gorgeous with a capital GORGE and a terrific actress so I think she'd be perfect as Margo. J'approve.

It won’t be the star wattage casting of Blanchett... but she will (probably) be pretty wonderful in it. Have to say I’m very disappointed though. Cate Blanchett is a wonderful stage actress and has a very unique glamour- she would have been divine in this.

I'm guessing the Savoy but will probably be completely wrong!

I'm guessing the Savoy but will probably be completely wrong! It's the Noel Coward.

I liked Lily James in Romeo and Juliet so hopefully she'll be good in this.
Guess we can rule out the Noel Coward for any musical transfers for the Spring.

I have no intelligence about this, just a psychic hunch - which is that it will open at the Noel Coward Theatre after Girl from the North Country closes (which is end of March). Got the theatre and time of year right... just the wrong year!

Why Lily James? I am genuinely yet to see her in anything where she is anything above ‘meh’.

Why Lily James? I am genuinely yet to see her in anything where she is anything above ‘meh’. I thought she was great as Desdemona in Sheffield Crucible's Othello some years back.

I liked her a lot in Romeo and Juliet at the Garrick for Branagh.
