If it's 2h10 at first preview it'll probably be 2 hours straight by press night...

I don't really want to give my opinion yet, apparently they'd never performed it in front of an audience before or performed the play the whole way through before so I'll give it a while to bed in.

Finally got round to booking this, found a cheap balcony ticket for the date I wanted so booked it. Was originally going to dayseat for it but this works out cheaper and the view from the balcony doesn't seem to be that bad.

But now I’m concerned the balcony might miss out on a fair amount of screen-on-the-back-wall-of-the-stage action a la Network?

callum it’s a possibility but it’s a risk I’m willing to take. Can’t say I know the show all the well for it to be that much of a concern right now. Guess we’ll soon find out.

If this show isn’t amazing I am giving up on theatre. And on life.

Not defending it, but this would hardly be the first production where that's happened.

They've almost certainly *performed* it the whole way through, just not yet with all the staging and lighting in place. That's how rehearsals and tech work, it's a RARE production that has managed a complete run-through with every single element in place before the doors are opened to audiences.

I think every single first preview I saw in the West End or the National was introduced by the director saying they never had a run-through before - I wonder if that's true or if it's just a vague way of reminding the audience that it's the first preview and everything might not be perfect.

No not bad, it has a lot of potential and all the actors are great. I'm seeing it again tonight (I'm a big Gillian Anderson fan, I saw all her previous plays a stupid amount of times). I'm hoping there will be evidence they're working on tightening it up.

The screen isn't actually on the back wall, it's above the stage so you should be OK.

And give Ivo’s shall we say “love of tech” that’s likely played into it... They’ll have been through the actual performance a number of times start to finish just not with all the bells and whistles (and yes Ivo projections) Exactly in place.

Over two hours and no interval? Apart from everyone's bladder and musculoskeletal considerations, bar management detest this.

Well then, let's hope the bar manager exerts sufficient influence to have an interval inserted, as for the reasons you cite, I won't otherwise be able to see this even if the reviews are good.

Lily James in Harper's Bazaar talking a teeny bit about the play (she doesn't give much away at all really). Eve-ning all

Gillian is in this month's Vogue as well...
Also not to go back down a well trodden path...most films are 2 hours long and people don't bat an eye and in a reasonably comfortable venue ie not sat on benches or whatnot, it doesn't really seem necessary to do a 75/45 split or whatever.

She is indeed. And for those of you who get hot under the collar at the thought of Ms Anderson in leopard print, you will be in heaven!

I've just had a look in Whippet Weekly. Nothing. Call themselves big stars do they? The pair of them need to get a couple of Godber's under their belts!
