Directed by outgoing artistic director Daniel Evans - his final production at the Crucible - Flowers for Mrs Harris will star Moyo Akandé (Thoroughly Modern Millie, White Christmas), Clare Burt (This is My Family, London Road), Anna-Jane Casey (Mack & Mabel, Forbidden Broadway), Rebecca Caine (Les Miserables, The Phantom of the Opera), Luke Dale (The Lover's Melancholy), David Durham (Jesus Christ Superstar, The Lion King), Louis Maskell (My Fair Lady, West Side Story), Mark Meadows (High Society, Urinetown), Laura Pitt-Pulford (The Sound of Music, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers) and Nicola Sloane (My Fair Lady, London Road).
Based on the novel by Paul Gallico, Flowers for Mrs Harris is a new musical set in 1940s London. It follows Mrs Harris, a cleaner who wants for nothing until she happens upon a Christian Dior dress.
It has design by Lez Brotherston, musical direction from Tom Brady, lighting by Mark Henderson and movement from Kay Shepherd.
Flowers for Mrs Harris runs at the Crucible, Sheffield from 18 May - 4 June 2016. - WOS
Just booked for this, all seats £17.00 on a Saturday night.

It is a high quality cast and crew - but it will all come down to whether audiences buy into the story and characters.

Well the story sounds cute from the novel synopsis. Hope it's fabulously stylish with loads of Dior inspired fash!

I just booked and was heading over here to start a new thread! Beaten by 2 hours! I've been thinking about booking this for ages as I remember the film very fondly, and Daniel Evans has directed some great musicals at Sheffield (especially Show Boat recently), and at these prices it's worth a punt.
But then seeing the casting today (particularly Laura Pitt-Pulford and Rebecca Caine - who has only got a decent song every other time I've seen her in recent years so I'm crossing my fingers) has clinched it, so off to Sheffield we go again!

It's a very short run and every seat in the house is that ridiculously low price so I'm not expecting BIG but it sounds good.

And to add to the good news, Louis Maskell is also in it, and Richard Taylor (music) wrote one of my favourite scores of all-time (Whistle Down the Wind - obviously not the ALW version) so things looking good...

Does anyone know how obtrusive captioning is at the Crucible? There are only 2 Saturday matinees for this show & the one with better availability is marked as a captioned performance. I've managed to successfully ignore captioning in proscenium arch theatres before by sitting near the front but I'm not sure how it would work with a thrust stage. I don't want to have a 6 hour round trip to Sheffield only to find I can't concentrate on the show because of the captions.

I saw AJ Casey do a Singular Sensation at Charing Cross last weekend, and she was saying how much she was looking forward to playing a character role in this, and was delighted that the director thought she could play an older character, if that helps. |

I'm rather tempted by this due to Rebecca Caine being in the cast - I met and chatted with her after 'The Milkdo' and she was charming and sweet - Had quite a few exchanges with her on Twitter ever since...plus this theatre is on my list to visit (I am gutted I didn't get in gear for 'Show Boat')

I saw a signed production at The Lowry the other week and after the first few minutes never even noticed she was on stage. I suspect that if you don't need the subtitles you'll soon forget they're there anyway. |

19th May for me. Only going as had to return my Bodyguard tickets as couldn't make it so spent the returns money on this. Really looking forward to this though as love shows when I genuinely know nothing about them!

Just back from this evenings performance and was pleasantly surprised. It had a little bit of a slow start but built up to a wonderful finale. The cast were good and as usual set design nice and creative. The start of the show seemed to have the orchestra drowning out the singing and struggled to hear a few lines but got better within it.
The 'Dior' fashion parade had a few lovely dresses but all looked like they needed a good steam so didn't have the wham eye catching effect you'd anticipate.
Downside - no song list in the programme and dresses need a good steam.
Upside -our cow molly (best interval ice creams ever but I am biased), excellent casting, creative set.
All in all a fitting final performance from the wonderful Daniel Evans and for £17 it's the steal of the season.

Most people tweeting about the show so far are saying how emotional they found it - as in weeping buckets. Seeing it next week so will go with a box of Kleenex. Can anyone comment more on the music - is it a bit Sondheimy as BurlybeaR suggests?
