Gemma has never screamed Liza to me, but she was amazing both as June and Louise, and was the best part of The Go Between, so great news! She doesn't need to "scream Liza", or even particularly resemble her. The role is quite unlike most of the rest of Liza Minnelli's work; part of the reason the original Broadway production had a rough commercial ride was that Minnelli, while apparently very good in it, was cast *way* against type. On the London recording, Diane Langton sings it quite differently from the way Minnelli did it. From what I've seen of Gemma Sutton - Strictly Ballroom and June in Gypsy - I think she'll do a great job. |

Quick plug for the Southwark's excellent "Pay as You Go" scheme which gives you 5 tickets for £60, which never expire, and you can use 2 per performance. Nothing to stop you seeing the same show multiple times with this deal though. She was exceptional when I last saw her as Louise in Gypsy. Think she'll be great opposite O'Connor!

Gemma has a busy summer with this and the title role in Sweet Charity at the Watermill Theatre. At least Baz had some good casting news for us last night!

Full casting has been announced : Stewart Clarke as Dino, Ross Dawes as Lino, Michael Lin as Lucky, Elander Moore as Benny, Ben Redfern as Lenny and Jason Winter as Tony.
I'm happy to know that there will be Jason Winter (i really liked him in kinky boots)

What are the best seats in this theater? can you see well from the side seats? are the seats in front of the stage better?

It's a very flexible space and depends on the staging - normally things will be staged so that there's a good view from all sides. The seats at the edge of the side block are probably less good.
Front row is best, I think: if you have to sit on one of the rear rows, the seats on the corners are my preferred option (eg E23, 24 or the same on the side blocks and on the other side) - the layout means you've got a view of the stage with nobody in front of you.

Also bear in mind that the seating plan is not 100% accurate and can change slightly by the time it gets to the first night. On the last 2 occasions my aisle seat that I always buy ended up not being on the aisle.

I personally don’t think the front row for any production at SP is the best. You are generally way too close so it’s always better to sit one or two rows back to take in the whole stage and show |
