If this is the one that toured small arenas a few years back - it was DIRE! Even the kids that went with my group were bored!

Also looks like they're now going with "Madagascar the Musical" rather than the previous "Madagascar - a Musical Adventure"

Is Kirk thingy still directing this? Yes. Press statement in WoS: Terry says: "I am so excited to be making my acting debut in Madagascar – The Musical. It's a childhood memory for all of us! I can't wait to be playing the lead role of Alex and bringing him to life. Expect incredible costume, set and cast. And the music is immense! It will be an awesome night for everyone to enjoy. See you all there." The cast will also feature Antoine Murray-Straughan, Timmika Ramsay, Jamie Lee-Morgan, Shane McDaid, Laura Johnson, Jessica Niles, Victoria Boden, Matthew Pennington and Darren John. The Selladoor production will be directed by Kirk Jameson with choreography from Fabian Aloise, design by Tom Rogers, lighting by Howard Hudson, sound by Chris Whybrow, musical supervision from Mark Crossland and puppet direction from Emma Brunton. After New Wimbledon Theatre, the tour will call at Birmingham, Glasgow, Manchester, Portsmouth, Sunderland, Southend, Blackpool, Bridlington, Bromley, Edinburgh, Bristol, Ipswich, Bradford, Derry, Exeter, Brighton, Grimsby, Liverpool, Reading, Woking, Wirral, Belfast, Oxford, Wolverhampton, Eastbourne, Swansea and Hull. |

I don't mind when I've never heard of a production's star performer, the theatre world can get very insular at times and I'm just not necessarily going to be familiar with people who've gained prominence in other arenas. Also I'm really good at using Google, and 100% of the time you don't even need to be good at Google to put the name in the box and see what comes back.
I do however mind when they talk about a film from 2005 being a childhood memory for everyone. Talk about insular!

If the same production as I took a group to see at Exeter (in an arena where they have the cows for the Devon County show!) it was AWFUL! Everyone came out and said the same, the kids were bored and at half time I was asked if we all wanted could we go now!
I would liken it to a very vary bad AM Dram or a very cheap theme park show. To add I will not be doing this again.
Perhaps it MAY be changed but BEWARE!!

I think it's definitely worth pointing out that although it's possibly the same material, this is an entirely brand-new production which is being conceived and created completely from scratch because the creative team on this production (different to the one you saw) were well aware of just how awful that arena production was!! I believe the plan is to try and turn this into a 'Shrek' type musical. It's something primarily for adults to go to and enjoy, but also completely harmless to bring kids along to as well as they'll have a great time. |

Saw the show this evening in Blackpool!
Each act runs approximately 40 minutes and it rattles through the plot of the first Madagascar film during the course of the evening.
The songs are fun and serve the plot, the cast work hard, the set is fun and very much in the style of the film.
Whilst it manages to engage during Act One, it really takes off with arrival of King Julien in Act 2 and the rendition of ‘I like to move it, move it’ really engaged the kids in the audience.
My kids really enjoyed it - and for £10 a ticket on a Travelzoo offer it was great value.
